I took a deep breath as I sat in the grass, the sun setting in the distance behind me. I had Kisten drive me an hour from the city, knowing that Lady Night would detour once she sensed me and I wanted to give her no reason to be anywhere near it. The Alpha had been reluctant to leave, but I sent him off with a kiss, promising I would be fine. I inhaled deeply as I plucked at the still grass, the nervousness in my chest not matching my brave words. The plains were unnaturally quiet, as if nature herself was holding her breath to see what our fight would be like. The sunset was pretty, bathing the grass around me in gorgeous pinks and oranges and I closed my eyes as the sunlight graced me with the last of its warmth.
