Chapter Fifteen

1316 Words
Everly Brittany stood up from the foot of the bed. Her hair made a perfect curtain on the side of her face, untucked from her ears. Her hand was extended to me. Not in a handshake, but in a “let-me-help-you-up” stance. I took it and stood as she strongly pulled me up. Wow, way stronger than she looks. Ok, then. The back sliding glass door was still open. The brisk air made it very cold in the room. I shivered as I looked at the door. Shivering from more than just the cold, but from what I heard outside the door. Howling. “Oh! So sorry. Let me get that.” She stood, paused for a moment and got a far off look before focusing again and walking over to slide the door closed and lock it. There was a knock on the door and I jumped! “No need to be startled. Kimmy is bringing your tea.” A short, teenaged girl with freckles popped her head inside the apartment. She smiled quickly at me and averted her eyes as she walked to the kitchenette carrying a tray full of items to make tea. Kimmy had a satchel across her body that she slipped off and offered to Brittany. Brittany took it and opened it. “I have a tshirt, a hoody and some joggers and socks. They are from my wardrobe, they might be a little—long.” She paused as she scanned her eyes, quick and polite up and down me. She was about a three to four inches taller than me it seemed. And I thought I was tall for a girl. I walk to the bathroom and step inside, closing the door behind me. I still had the blanket on my shoulders. I look around, curious as it’s probably one of the cleaner men’s bathrooms I’ve ever been in. It’s very tidy in here. Hand towels neatly hung, toilet seat and lid down. No toothpaste residue in the sink. The sink counter is long and extends from the wall with cabinets built in underneath. The mirror is an oblong shape just above the sink. There is a shelf next to it that extends to the wall. An electric razor and a toothbrush jar with one toothbrush in it rests on top. I look in the mirror. I cringe inside as I look like a mess. Mascara is under and around my eyes. My cheeks are pink and eyes are puffy. My hair needs smoothing but It’s actually hanging in there. Ok, so overall dignity is still intact. I decide to remove my makeup altogether and start searching the cabinets for a washcloth. Under the sink has cleaning solutions and an assortment of homemade looking salves. I don’t know men who use skin products without their gfs pushing it on them. Let alone making them themselves. One has the scent of eucalyptus One with lavender. I put some of the lavender on my wrist and it instantly calms me. Oooo, that’s nice. I find wash clothes in the drawer and proceed to become more human. I change into Brittany’s clothes. They fit in the waist and just are a little long so I give an extra roll. I leave my under garments in a pile on the floor. I take a deep breath, bringing my wrist to my face again to smell the lavender and open the door. Brittany is walking over to me from the kitchen with a steaming teacup in hand. “Why don’t we have a seat?” She gestures to the small kitchenette table and chairs by the back windows. My eyes bulge out of my head as the most stoic looking blonde man is standing there, staring off out the window.. He turns to look at me as Brittany pulls my chair out and goes to his side while I sit. She kisses his neck, sensually, but makes it look so casual, I’m taken a back. She rubs her hand on his back. He’s looking at me, taking in my expression I’m sure. “Uhm mm mm.” I felt the need to clear my throat even though it was clear. Was it hot in here? I pull the collar of the hoody away from my neck a bit. That neck kiss had me flustered. Like watching a s*x scene with your parents or something. “Everly. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Andrew.” His penetrating voice was so deep, I felt compelled to put my hand out before he could start raising his. “Hi. I, uh, recognize your voice. From before when—-“ I gesture to the area by the bed where I was with Joe. “Yes. Well, Joe has a lot of explaining to do. That is if you let him.” He raised and eyebrow at me, waiting. “Honestly, I would like to leave. What happened is—not right.” I say, unconvincingly. “But you’re curious?” Brittany asks, intrigued. Her arm is draped around Andrew’s shoulders rubbing the skin of his neck very gently with her finger tip. I just stare back, untrusting of the confidence in my voice. “I know you are. The pull of the bond is very strong between you. I can feel it still and Joe must be a couple miles away.” She was speaking, but I felt my thoughts get muddled on the word bond. Bond? What bond? The sexy guy was a predator! Brittany was carrying on talking mostly ro Andrew, “I felt it when they pulled into the garage. That’s how I new she was here. It’s strange though. It feels similar to all the other alphas bonds from the othe pac—“ “My love, that’s enough for now. We can discuss this later.” His voice seemed like a courteous warning. Brittany furrowed her brow and tilted her head down. Just a tad. What was she talking about? Alphas from what? Other fraternities? She could feel it. Feel what? What I feel when I’m around Joe? Does he put something in the water or something? My thoughts race. “I would like to invite you to stay the evening. I have seperate quarters for you. They are made up already. There is a deadbolt on the door for you to feel safe.” Andrew said, caustiously. “I strongly feel you should a least let Joe speak with you. Tonight.” He finished. I opened my mouth to protest. My thoughts were swirling. The one pissing me off the most was the comfort I felt when they said Joe’s name. “I can’t. I need to leave. Now.” I stand up from the table and began flitting around looking for my phone and clothes. I stopped when I realized they were neatly folded and stacked on the modern coffee table. I turned back to Brittany and Andrew. They were very still with distant looks on their faces. I started to feel warm from the inside. Joe. There was a quiet knock on the door. Brittany was by my side with a few long strides. “I will be right here. You need this. Please trust me.” “And I will be here to. Nothing ill will befall on you. You have my word.” Andrew chided I was angry they were making a victim face a potential attacker, but that was a fleeting thought the moment the most handsome guy, the one from earlier in the day on the snowy hike and not the scary monster from an hour ago, stepped in from the door. “Everly.” His velvet voice said my name. Pleading forgiveness already. I felt safe and love and warmth again. My heartbeat quickened. I sprinted towards him.
