Chapter Three

EVERLY We planned on taking an Uber from the airport. It was about a 35 minute drive. The roads weren’t too winding, which was a relief as it started to lightly snow. I looked out the back passenger window and saw how the moonlight hits the snow in between the trees in the woods. It was reflective and beautiful! We turned off the main road. The trees became a little thicker which made everything seem a little darker. My eyes were still adjusting when we passed an really nice luxury-looking cabin. There was a sportscar in the drive way and some lights were on inside. It was nestled back off the road a ways and backed up to the woods. A little further down on the opposite side of the road was another cabin in a clearing. This one had an giant Tahoe SUV parked in front. I imagine there were some day time views with the mountains to be seen out the back as the area was a little more cleared. A further ways down the road was a circle drive and the end of the street. In the middle of the circle was a giant Christmas-like pine tree covered with snow. Behind it was the coziest cabin made with wooden beams and stones on the corners halfway up. The giant front window had the blinds drawn and the front door was painted a dark color that looked tinted green in the dark. The roof was snow covered and there was a stone chimney visible. The cabin was set back from the road and had a long drive way lined with pine trees. The driver turned in to the driveway. The majestic trees behind the cabin were a little thinner and the moonlight hit the snow to perfectly illuminate it as we drove closer. Seeing the cabin in the moonlight and the snow sprinkling softly down warmed my heart and I immediately wished I could move here! “Oh my gosh. It’s so pretty!” Bianca was the first to verbalize anything. Up til this point we just kept gasping at the visible nighttime scenery. We opened our doors to exit the car. A few minutes later, Bianca is putting in the code at the front door as we stood huddled on the porch. The driver agreed to wait for us to quickly change and he would give us a ride to the downtown area. The door bings and there’s a click as the code is accepted. “Ok, B. FIVE minutes!” I emphasize the five as Bianca is notorious for taking her time getting ready. I live that “quick-turn” life and can be ready in no time. We don’t really look around closely as we go to the hall and the room on the left, which we were told by Carly, is ours. There were two full size beds with matching Buffalo flannel sheet sets. Moose were pictured on the pillow shams with coordinating throw pillows. One saying “#cozylife” and the other bed’s throw saying “#cabinlife”. “I choose—-‘cozylife’.” Bianca said and moved to the left side of the room. I went to the right side bed and put my bag on the bag stand provided. Nice touch, I thought. I unzipped my bag and flipped it open. All my stuff was neatly packed away in various packing bags. My shoes were wrapped to keep from touching my clothes. A few years being a flight attendant was good for my slightly obsessive tidiness. I picked out my long sleeve, stripped, cropped turtle neck that had dark blue, black and copper accents and paired it with a corduroy jumper. I started unzipping my flight attendant dress uniform. I turned and B was topless, not facing me, holding up a very tiny piece of fabric to examine in her outstretched arms. “Won’t you be cold?” I asked standing in my nude lace bra and matching panties. Again, obsessive with my under garments having to match. “Just wait! I have the purrrrrr-fect cover up with this. Very 90s.” Bianca imitated a purr sound on the word perfect. She pulled out a faux fur shaw wrap that just looked awesome with her backless top and high waisted plaid flares. “Oh my God—I love that look!” I exclaimed stepping into my jumper. I pulled it up over my rear, having to wiggle a bit to get it in, and pulled the straps up my arms. “Thank you. Thank you!” Bianca curtsied jokingly. “I found it at a thrift store. It doesn’t smell and is in great shape! Ok, I’m ready!” She stated hands on her hips. “I’ll do my lipstick in the car.” Bianca shrugged and grabbed her clutch purse from the bed and peeked inside, checking the contents. “Ok, what should I do with my hair? Headband?” I asked, touching up my concealer in the mirror on the tall dresser that was in the room. “Yea, that will be cute. It’s weird to ‘go out’ in the winter. I find the oddest things to wear.” Bianca stood in front of the mirror examining the front and back of her outfit. Just then, we hear what sounded like a pack of wolves howling. It was short but it was ominous. I shivered, rolling up the knee high socks that go with my tall boots. I found my black head band and put it in my hair. Spraying dry shampoo, I heard a car horn beep from the front of the house. “It’s been 7 minutes! We gotta go. Diego is getting impatient. Who’s late now, huh?” Bianca teased. I ran my fingers through my short blonde hair to give it a little fluff and practiced my “sexy” smile in the mirror. Eh, it’ll do. I laughed out loud at myself. We leave the lights on so it isn’t so dark when we come home in a few hours. “I don’t want to stay too long. I’m kinda beat from working and traveling today. SOME of us didn’t get to sleep on our flights in.” I chided. “SOME of us had to PAY for our flights in.” She snarked back at me raising her eyebrows in a taunting way. “Fine, fine. I’ll stay til Carly kicks her shoes off. Then, we rally the troops.” I stated. Bianca put the code in the door and it binged and clicked again with a red light popping up to show it was locked. The drive to the little down town was 10 minutes. It was about 9:30 pm by the time we thanked Diego for the rides and walked into the drunken squeals of our friends at the bar. They of course were surrounded by a group of people, most of which were guys. Huge guys. “Eeeee! Beauties! You made it!” Jordan squealed and came up to wrap her arms around both of our necks. “Muah! Muah!” She sloppily kissed both of our cheeks. Her black skinny jeans and long, flowy sleeved shirt, low-cut shirt looked so good with her short booties and jeans. “I missed you so much. Here, have a drink!” As if on cue, Carly had four shots in her hands and was handing one to each of us. “Ladies,” Carly called, “let’s get this girls weekend started!” She ‘woo’d’ and tossed the drink back like a champ. We followed suit. Jordan coughing a little and all of us needing a chaser. “Love you all!” She individually hugged Bianca and myself as Jordan turned back to her new “friends.”Good, shoes on, inhibitions down, cheeks only a little red. I noted about Carly. She was wearing a long sleeve burgundy satin wrap dress with a matching belt. The dress was flowy and ruffled as it hit right above her knee. Her perfectly matched silver snakeskin heeled booties looked so adorable. “Carly, you look stellar!” I said, taking her hand and making her do a little flirty spin. She laughed and tossed her long straight black hair back over her shoulder as a very handsome, very built, black guy came up and flashed a million watt smile at us. “You must be the friend. I’m Jackson,” he offered his hand to me and slyly put his arm around Carly’s waist. She turned into him and pat his muscular chest. “We just met,” she laughed again. “More drinks, more drinks!” She chanted, flashing her almond shaped eyes at me and mouthed, “No boys allowed” with a wink. That was a rule for the trips. We can dance, flirt, kiss, touch but no boys came back to our cabin unless we all agreed. I was standing at the end of the bar as Bianca joined Jordan back with the group of loud, but friendly new people. I walked over taking in the massive size of most of the people around here. Super fit. Probably from the altitude and all the skiing and snowboarding. I thought. I put my coat with the others on the rack and grabbed my phone and clutch. I remembered my mom told me to text her when I landed. Shoot! I forgot I pulled out my phone to send a quick text: Landed in SLC safe. With the girls. Love you. My mom was a flight attendant, too. She would understand the late text. We just get caught up! “Hey! Get another drink in that girl’s hand!” I heard Jordan holler to which the crowd responded with a resounding “Yeaa!” The bar tender was ready with my favorite, a whiskey sour. I took a big drink after raising it in the air. “For the girls!” I cheered. Tonight was going to be a fun night.
