The surprise on Zian's face didn't last long. It vanished almost as quickly as it had appeared. A second later, he looked like he was lost in thought as if he was reevaluating the conversation we'd just had. I held his gaze. "Just because you approached me first doesn't mean I trust you," I told him quietly. Zian remained silent. So I continued. "You came into my life with an agenda." A small breeze passed through the parking lot. Neither of us moved. "You wanted something from me from the very beginning." I watched him clench his jaw. "You proposed an alliance." I pressed my lips into a thin line. "A partnership." Then I narrowed my eyes at him. "That doesn't automatically make you trustworthy." The silence stretched between us and I wondered if he was offended for a second.
