Panic swallowed me whole. No. No, no, no. This couldn't be happening. My breathing became shallow as I looked around wildly, my mind desperately searching for anything that could get me out. "My phone..." I twisted awkwardly, ignoring the stabbing pain shooting through my ankle. My handbag had landed several feet away when I fell, far beyond my reach. "No." I stretched my arm until every muscle screamed. My fingertips barely brushed empty air. It was useless. A sob escaped my lips. The smoke hanging near the ceiling thickened by the second. I slammed both hands against the heavy wooden box trapping my leg. "Move!" I pushed harder but the box didn't shift an inch. Tears spilled down my cheeks. "Help!" My voice echoed through the empty house. "Somebody, please!" I screamed
