Chapter 24
It happened while they were sitting around the fire, eating the desert stew that Gavi had wrangled into actually tasting good. Jabari had never loved lizard, but his brother had a way with spices that was undeniable. Just as Jabari was sighing with contentment and leaning back on his elbows, his gift told him something was in the trees and he was on his feet with his staff in his hand.
The something that he sensed was several four-footed creatures, and Jabari blinked as they became emerged from the scraggly forest. It took him a minute to realize what he was seeing, but once he did, he gasped and threw his staff on the ground, bowing deeply.
"Keerza," Ivy breathed beside him.
