The gentle knock at the door pulled Meredith out of Magnus’s muscular arms. She glanced at the trio, who, for once, seemed content to let her go—though Magnus grumbled a low protest as she slipped from his lap.   "I'll get it," Meredith said, rolling her eyes as she padded across the room, her bare feet silent against the cool floor.   When she opened the door, a young maid stood there with a polite smile.
