He stares at her blankly and unbelievably as anger spur through him.
"You would have to become my friend," Her words echo in his head again, and a throaty scoff tears through his throat. The fact that he has been ridiculed and zeroed to nothing, shouldn't have given her the guts to talk to him in that manner, right?
Speechless, he turns around and strides out of the garden in anger. Has already made up his mind that he's going to take the test and face the consequences later. He's ready to take whatever comes out of it. The worst thing they can do is humiliate him and end up throwing him out of the school, nothing else.
As he strides through the hallway, different thoughts keep parading his mind, mixed feelings of anger and thirst for vengeance spur through him, as the thought of how he was treated by his people, fill his mind.
He walks elegantly into the class maintaining a straight face, as usual, his hands are tucked inside his pockets as he manages to hide his pain and act like everything is fine. He strides to his seat and makes himself comfortable, staring out of the window as he feeds his eyes with the beauty of the flowers. He seems to have gotten so comfortable with plants, than his own kind.
The rowdy class suddenly becomes quiet and he returns his gaze to the class to confirm the sudden silence. Behold, there is the strict magic teacher, standing in front of the class with the usual strict expression on her face. He glances at his wristwatch and his heart skips nervously.
"The test is kicking off in thirty minutes, so endeavor to be in the hall ten minutes before the test. As you all know, be late for my lesson and say your last goodbye to magic college. Excuse me," Her cold and strict voice echo across the class before she finally walks away. The students start getting ready for the test as soon as the teacher is out of sight.
"Look who is so nervous," Octavia mocks sarcastically, standing up to her feet. She rolls her eyes and walks out of the class.
Seconds slowly tick into minutes, and his nervousness increases. Once it's time, the students troops out of the class one after the other until he is the only person in the class. He glances at his wristwatch for the umpteenth time and his heart skips again. Even if he wants to avoid this, he knows very well that it's a reality he would have to face sooner or later. There's no point in hiding his secret anymore, knowing that they'll find out sooner or later. So what difference does it make?
Standing up from his seat, he strides to the door and exits the classroom. Since the hall is not difficult to locate, in a few minutes he finds himself in front of the door. He pushes the door open and walks inside but almost freezes at the number of students that welcomes him. He was thinking that the test would just be concerning his classmates alone, but the sight he beholds tells him that it's half of the school and not just a class. His knees weaken and his heart suddenly starts beating violently against his chest, seeing the crowd alone makes him cringe and the thought of the test makes it worse.
"Over here, Roan," He snaps his head in the direction of the familiar voice, and as expected, it's the extrovert that talks always, Ariana. He rolls his eyes and tucks his hands into his pockets. He strides to the far end of the hall and sits on the neat floor, just like every other person. The students are busy entertaining themselves with noise and jokes, while Ariana keeps stealing glances at Roan that isn't even looking her way.
"Don't lose concentration later. I wouldn't want someone crying later that the teacher scolds her," Chloe who has been sitting beside Ariana speaks up as she rolls her eyes.
An awkward silence assumes the air as if someone important is about to arrive in the hall, and just then, the door suddenly burst open and Jeremy walks in elegantly with his friends. The class lit up in an uproar at the sight of the four gods, as they have always been referred to in the school.
They stop abruptly, and Jeremy looks at the students one after the other, as though he's looking for someone, and just then, his eyes lands on her. It's Ariana. A smile laces up his lips as soon as his eyes fall on her. He strides to where she's sitting on the floor, while his friends find their way around the hall.
"Hi!" He smiles at her.
"You're not welcome," She replies to him instead, her face showing so much irritation.
"I know. You look beautiful, as always," His smiles are so natural and real, but all she sees is a pervert and a betrayer. It's difficult to forgive him for what he did back then and sweep everything under the carpet like it never happened.
"And you're not expecting me to say a thank you for that, are you? It's obvious that I'm always beautiful, so I don't see it as a big deal," She smirks dryly at him. Her smirk disappears immediately, replaced with a deep frown.
"Ariana, I..." His words are cut in his mouth as the door suddenly opens and the familiar strict scent fills the air. A dead silence takes over the hall as fear registers on each student's face. They know what it means to fail the magic teacher's test and the consequence that awaits anyone that dares to fail her test.
"Hello, students. I believe we all are here. Jeremy, get me the list of the absentees after the test," She instructs and Jeremy nods.
"Good. The test is starting now, and I'm going to call a few students to give you a sneak peek of the test before the freshers start theirs. I believe we all know the consequences of not passing the test. There's no point being in this school if you have no magical powers. Ariana, Jeremy, Damon, and Alex. Please you all should step forward," Roan gulp down the lump in his throat as he watch the pointed students step out to the podium...
