Chapter 13
Roan POV
I watch both mother and father fighting for their lives and I can only cry. The fact that they got hurt is killing me, but what hurts the most is the fact that I couldn't even protect them, I allowed them to be hurt by those strangers. Now, this makes me feel more miserable.
"They were poisoned, my prince," The fifth physician finally announces, and I feel like my heart has been ripped off my chest. Since yesterday that incident happened, I have tried getting help, but none of the physicians could tell what exactly was done to my parents. It hurts to know that father was poisoned again when he was already going through a lot from the previous poison from an unknown source, and now he's poisoned again. The both of them are now fighting for their lives.
"I'm sorry, my prince. But I don't think that they will survive this. The poison is toxic and spreads over the system in hours. It has already contaminated their blood, and once it gets to their hearts, then I'm sorry," He makes it clear to me. I allow my tears to fall freely from my eyes, as I stare down at their eyes closed.
"Excuse me," He excuses himself and exits the room, leaving me to stay with my dying parents.
"Mother, father, you won't die, right? Remember you two are the only family I have in this life. You can't possibly leave me, right?" I take their hands, crying my eyes out. I can't bear the pain of losing both parents, they have always been by my side, and losing them now, is what I won't be able to take. They're the reason why my secret is still hidden until now, they're the reason why I still have a little hope, my hope of living will be shattered if anything happens to them. All my life, I have never prayed to the moon goddess, I have never asked for anything from her, but she should spare my parents lives, and I'll forever be grateful to her.
"Levi, your highness," My personal guard speaks from outside. Levi has been one of my trusted men for these past weeks that I've been here, he has always been by my side.
"Come in," I wipe my tears and stand up to face her when he walks in. He has a look on his face, that depicts that something is wrong somewhere. My mind wanders off to the thought of the invaders, and I know his mood must be related to the incident.
"Report," I order him.
"My lord, I checked all the borders but I found nothing. They made sure they get rid of anything that would serve as evidence," My face drops at his information. Who knows, maybe if I can get my hands on the person that did that, I might be able to save my parents.
"How about the white wolf?" I ask anxiously, but he shakes his head. I sigh softly.
After the incident, I have been thinking of the white wolf. I have tried so many times to get it off my head, but I always found myself thinking of it. I just want to see it again, even if it's just once.
"You may leave," I send him off.
"My lord, you have been here all night. You should get some rest, while I look over his Highness and her majesty," My mother's personal maid, Adele requests and I nod in agreement. I've been with them all night, and it's already affecting my injury. Even I was hurt from the attack, I have just been trying to suppress my pain and care for my parents. I can worry about myself later.
I leave my parents under her care and head back to my room. I crash to the floor as soon as I enter my room, letting my tears fall freely from my eyes. If only I have the capacity, maybe my parents wouldn't be lying there and fighting for their lives now. I wish I was the one that got infected with the poison, I wish that I'm the one on that bed, fighting for my life. My life is worthless anyway, it wouldn't hurt to die. I have been dead for years anyway. I considered myself not having a life after I found out about my predicament if you must know.
I sit on the floor for hours, crying my eyes out until it's dusk. My stomach grumbles, and I realize that I haven't had anything since yesterday. Not that I'm hungry though. Mother and father are there fighting for their lives, so eating food should be the last thing I should think of, right?
My eyes slowly become heavy and I close them to have some sleep, but just then, a loud bang sounds on my door, jolting me from the sleep I haven't even started. My heart skips as I spring up and pull the door open, and there is Adele, having her mouth hanging open. The look on her face reveals it all, she has something under her sleeve, and everything is not fine.
"My prince..." She shakes her head, her eyes brim with tears.
"Wh...what's going on?" I rush out of the room and straight to my father's chambers. I barge in but stop abruptly on my track at the sight I behold. Some members of the council are already present, having looks on their faces, that explain that there's a problem. I gulp down the lump in my throat, trying to convince myself that everything is fine, but seeing the truth standing in front of me and staring back at me, can I really deny that nothing is wrong? I guess not.
My legs suddenly weaken and they start trembling. I drag them inside slowly until I'm standing in between the beds they're lying on. The duvet that was covering just the lower parts of their body a few minutes ago has been dragged over their faces, which means what I do not understand.
Lord Erik whimpers loudly and sadly, announcing the sad news, and I fall to my knees.
"Father! Mother!" I cry out painfully...
