Birthday

"I thought we have talked about this already?" Mother asks frustratingly, touching her forehead. "Yes, we did. And I told you that I can't allow that, mother. How's that even possible? Matching my stars with someone else, how sure are you that it'll work?" I'm trying to make her see my point, but I don't know why she's not giving me a listening ear to me. She doesn't want to see things from my perspective. We've been talking about this for quite some time now, and it's already frustrating me that she still doesn't want to listen to me. "And how would you know whether it'll work or not if you haven't given it a try yet? At this point, this is the only option we have, son. I understand that you're trying to be careful, but you should know that I'll never do something that'll hurt you or endanger your future," She tries to make me see from her perspective too. "Don't you get it, mother? We do have a choice, mother. And the choice we have is that if this is going to continue like this, then I better leave everything behind and go back to where I came from. I have been away from here, and living a happy life without anyone frustrating me, why are you making this difficult more than it is already?" I ruffle my hair crazily, crashing my back on the wall of my room. "This has nothing to do with the throne, son. I'm trying to make sure that you're fine. I won't force you to do this, but I hope you can give it a try," She finally says and exits my room. I sigh deeply, crashing to the floor. Why does my life have to be this messed up? Seconds tick into minutes and how time flies, it's already five days to my birthday. Even after I told mother that I don't want to celebrate my birthday, she insisted that I must, so I just have to obey her and do what she wants, if that's what will make her happy. The maids have been busy decorating the castle for a couple of days now, mother keeps sending invites to the neighboring packs, and also, father has been responding to treatment over the days. That's the only happy thing that happened so far. Mother and I have agreed to see the priest today, and she should be here anytime soon. I didn't want to, but not when she's hell-bent on frustrating my life till I couldn't take it anymore and I had to agree to her terms. "Roan, mother is here," Mother speaks from outside. Speak of the angel, she's here. I reach to the door, and there she is, looking as beautiful as always in a red loose gown, with the back sweeping the ground. She looks as elegant as always in the dress. "Are you ready?" She asks with a smile dancing on her lips, and I nod. She leads me to the so-called priest afterward. After visiting the priest to give him the necessary information he would need for the star matching, we come back home. I still don't feel good about this. How time flies, it's finally my birthday. I'm supposed to be happy, but here I am in a pool of sadness. I have no reason to be happy because my life has been filled with nothing, but pains and sadness. While the guests are busy drinking at the venue, I leave to cool my head after greeting the guests. I don't feel good about the entire birthday thing, I feel like something bad is going to happen, but I just have to ignore the feeling. Maybe I'm feeling this way because of my predicament. I didn't bother to invite anybody, so I'm rest assured that none of my schoolmates will be here. It'll be embarrassing if they see me here. I mean, I was bullied in school and I couldn't even fight for myself, it'll be so embarrassing to know that I'm an alpha's son. I check my wristwatch, and I guess they must've gone to stay under the full moon to gain power and shift into their wolves. Since there's no hope for me, I just sit back in the garden and watch the beautiful stars in the sky, while thinking about my life. The sudden footsteps behind me pull my attention and looking in the direction, my mouth drops open at the sight I behold, it's Ariana. What the heck is she doing here? "Roan?" She look shocked to see me. "Roan is that you? Oh my God! I'm so happy to see you. I've been so worried sick about you. Why have you not been coming to school? Did you get hurt? What are you doing here?" She never fails to display her attitude again, which I hate the most. I've noticed that she talks a lot. I ignore her and start walking away, but she rushes toward me and holds my hand, bringing me to an abrupt halt. My heart flutters as her hand contacts my skin, a weird sensation spark through me, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat. "This is not fair, I've been worried about you. Why would you just walk away like that as if I wasn't talking to you?" She whines, but I ignore her and walk away. I wonder why she keeps following me everywhere I go. Who invited her here? Damn it! "Finally, I have been searching everywhere for you, son," Mother has a worried look on, as she rushes over to me. I'm walking along the hallway that leads to where the event is going on. "What's it, mother?" I ask confusingly. "It's time for the mating match, please let's go," She holds my hand and starts dragging me away. She drags me to where everyone is waiting, and the atmosphere tenses up as soon as they see me. Lord Erik is already standing on what looks like a podium. "Good evening everyone, you're welcome to the birthday of prince Roan Vandette, the son of alpha Vandette. Let me introduce the celebrant, prince Roan Vandette," He gestures to me, and I walk to join him on the podium. The crowd keeps applauding. After exchanging pleasantries with all of them and giving a short speech, the priest finally steps on the podium to announce my mate. My heart races fast as I wait patiently for him to announce the person. "By the power vested on me by the moon goddess, I pronounce Octavia Gary Ryder, your moonly mate," He announces, and I freeze on the spot. What the heck is that? How could he pair me with the daughter of the zeta?...
