Lainie stared at the darkness outside her window. When she left the bar, she had assumed the Serpents would follow her as soon as they saw Rance head in the opposite direction. However, there had been no sign of them anywhere. If their plan was to get her alone and then force her to sneak them into the sheriff’s department, they missed the perfect opportunity. So, what changed? She dropped her curtain back into place as she moved over to the stool in front of her kitchen island and slid onto it.
