In the darkness of the night, Vekaya crouched in the hallway, waiting for a sound. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. The footsteps had stopped. She waited and waited. There couldn't be anyone nearby. The drafty air bit at her and stoked her mind further toward action, whether it was a good idea or not. Held in the t****l of her own beating pulse, she moved forward swiftly and as silently as possible. As she stalked to the entrance of the dining hall, Vekaya had the nagging suspicion that she had given herself away.
