Chapter IV
Gun shot firing. Soldiers shouting. It was mid day when they started attacking. Vampires don't die because of day light. It was just a damn myth. They just have poor eye sight under the sun or with bright lights. Twelve high noon was the perfect time to attack they have the element of surprise after all, and most of the civilians are now inside the EVAC CAMP. We wouldn't expect them in broad day light. Killing us is just as easy as picking daisies. That was the irony of being just humans. We have our guns, they have their super speed and killer teeth. We just run around panicking squealing like wild pigs! That happens to civilians during their panic attacks. They run everywhere making it even harder for us to manage the situation. We are their food supply and judging by the way they took advantage of our weakness, they are gathering as much humans as they can.
"They're going to kill us all!" Shrieked a panicking civilian then like a chain reaction, everyone got angsty.
"We're gonna die!" Shouted by yet another one. That's when all hell broke loose! Like rats running from wild cats inside a big box, they felt trapped.
Chaos was everywhere. It spread like wild fire. And it was really getting out of hand. "Civilians are raging and stampeding" I heard the communicator croak. "We really need those planes, Sir!" I was connected on the open channel hearing all the conversation. I am not worried with the people onside the EVAC CAMP, they are surrounded with armed men and those planes are bound to arrive soon. What worries me are those who didn't make it inside.
"This is R.Major Franchette VillaAlguiria. Permission to speak sir?" I asked the intercom.
My communicator croaked with static, "Shoot, baby doll." Answered the Camp Commander.
"What happened to the convoy party from the East?" I asked. It's the convoy which escorts the kids from the orphanage.
"Sorry baby doll..." the communicator got silenced for a while, "I'm afraid they're gone."
"What? How?" I asked shuttered, I didn't even bother with the respect now.
"Ambush at Alice bridge. They're taken back at the orphanage." He said grimly. "Their communication was cut off upon entering the area, I believe they are being hold hostages inside or worse."
"Permission for search and rescue Sir. I would go alone if I have to." Hoping that he'll let me. I would never allow any of those kids be food to those things.
"Granted, but R. Alpha team can handle that search and rescue." He said. "I know you won't abandon those kids, especially since one of your teammate is one of the hostages. Mushka Sagas is one of your team am I not correct?"
"Mushka? Yes Sir, she is one of us. She's with them...they'll be safe at least for now." I said sighing. "Thank you Sir."
"Go to the Armory Major, they'll have what you need. Last Evac post is at the San Juan Bacon Coast line at O Six hundred hours tomorrow." He said. "Coordinate with Airforce if you couldn't make rendezvous point."
"Copy Sir. Over and out." I said turning off my communicator from the broadcast channel and switching it to our private one. "Heard that guys?" I asked my friends.
"I'll start up my baby. I'll get satellite settled on the orphanage. If they move, we'll know." Queencie said sounding child like in our communication line. "I could easily track down Mushka's signal and could access her phone if given the time."
"Great you do that Q!" Queencie couldn't handle big guns because of her frame. So, she try compensating through other things. "Come on, better get our things ready guys!" We headed to the Armory to suit up as fast as we can. We are chasing time.
R. Alpha team VI means reservist alpha team six. It was the number of our team during training. We somehow belong to the tougher ones, Capable to handle search and rescues by ourselves. Or in other words, we're not that easy to kill. At least in our training we aren't. I just don't know if we can handle vampires in all their killing spree. But we still have some tricks up our shoulders, after all it is our home territory.
Arriving at the armoury, we started collecting every thing we needed. Pistols, knives, grenade and other tricky gadgets that would ether explode or emite bright light to startle those bats. While Chealsie pick up her specialty weapon Cayote riffle, great for long distance kill, Queencie hacked into the orphanage security system making sure that all the hidden exits are open for our access. Noelle started hiding knives in her suit while I go for the typical hand held pistols and iron knockles just in case I'm in the mood for hand to hand combat. Though I won't consider it since those bats can out strength me ten to one.
After gearing up, we went to the information tent to gather intel. "The last chopper leaving tonight is at seventeen hundred hours. There wound't be any soldiers here so you're on your own after that. Although there are stations scatered with emergency choppers, but those requires pilot licenses. So, I suggest if you can't make it tonight you better go to the Evac Camp staioned at San Juan, Bacon coast line. Its last plane leaves tomorrow." said the stationed officer there.
"We clearly won't use those choppers, we've got fourteen kids and five adults to rescue." informed Chealsea. "Won't there be any planes left here?"
"Too expensive to be left behind." answering her query, I stood up and took my back pack with me. "Chealsea, I need you to coordinate with your Dad. Ask him if he could leave a Black Hawk or anything that can handle our weight." Chealsea nodded and took her phone to call her father. Queencie looked at me attentively for my orders but I could say that I am still out of ideas as to what to do and how I can get Mushka and the kids safely out of the hands of those bats.
My last chance of not breaking the promise I said to my Mom is to abandon my duty. But I am raised like that. I will take those kids to the shelter or die trying.
Chealsea walked in pouting. "He can't help us, it turned out that they are attacking all the Evac camp at once." That made me even more frustrated. "Fran, we have to move now, we don't have much time."
"I know. I guess we are on our own...I'm so sorry guy." Sighing I started walking. "Thank you so much for the information sir." I said to the officer. He nodded and muttered his welcom.
"What now?" aked Noelle, "we can still use my car."
"Too noisy, i***t. Using your car would just be like a red flag signaling our arrival." Queencie snapped.
"Now I'm an i***t for trying to help? Thank you so much, you little monster!" Noelle retorted rolling her eyes.
"Your not helping!" I said, "Guys, please! Mushka is in trouble, we have to do something about it. And fighting is not an option. We are not kids any more!"
"Well, I'm still nineteen so that is still considered as--" Queencies sweet talk was cut off by my mobile phone's ringing.
The screen flashed Mushka's picture. "Mushka! Where the hell are you? Are the kids safe?" I asked answering the phone.
"We're at the orphanage in one of the halls, I guess we are safe for now. The kids are fine." she whispered. "and can you please stop the shouting!"
