The office was filled with cold silence as the two parties just kept staring at each other.
Arnold was trying to read her expression, while Eva was just nervous.
“I didn't hear you well. Do you mind repeating what you just said?” Arnold asked firmly. The way his tone sounded drove fear into Eva's nerves.
“Please, sir, I… I need your help, sir.” She stuttered. It was evident that her fear had most of her.
She was literally sweating in an air-conditioned office.
“What do you need me to do? What is it all about?” he asked curiously.
Even if he decides to help her, he needs to know where his money is going. That's how a business person, like himself, thinks.
“My mother. She needs a heart transplant immediately, and I don't have enough resources to foot the bill,” Eva explained.
“How much are we looking at?” Arnold asked. The conversation was moving much more easily and faster than Eva had presumed.
“One million dollars. That's the cost of the transplant.” She dropped the bomb on Arnold, who received it with a troubled look on his face.
“That's quite an amount. Do you want to take a loan then?” he asked curiously.
“If that is what you will be willing to do for me, then I'll be happy to oblige, sir,” she replied.
Eva knew that such an amount of money was not so hard for him to release.
“Loan you? Are you out of your mind? That is a huge amount of money,” he replied shockingly.
Eva went down on her knees without wasting so much time and began pleading. That was the only thing she knew that would be of help to her.
“I don't want to give you a loan. But I think I have something better for you,” he replied.
Eva looked into his eyes, and she could see how serious Arnold was. She could not believe it.
Arnold was actually opting to help her. But this was not a time to rejoice just yet. She was not sure how the help was coming.
“Come back tomorrow. The documents will be ready tomorrow.” He dismissed her from his office.
Eva didn't hesitate. She quickly left his office. That was Eva's day off, so she just went back home and prepared breakfast for her mother.
She took the food along with her to the hospital. “Good morning, Mum,” she greeted her mother.
Her mother was awake, but she looked so weak. “How are you, Eva?” She tried to take an upright position on the bed, but Eva quickly held her back.
“Don't worry, Mum, you need to rest. The doctor advised that you should do less strenuous work,” she replied.
“Rebecca came here. Sue also brought something for me to eat this morning,” Eva's mother said.
Eva was shocked. She wasn't expecting Rebecca to come and see her mother, after the way she sounded over the phone.
“I will call her right away and thank her,” she said, as she grabbed her phone and moved aside to make the call.
“My darling. How are you?” Rebecca asked from the other side of the phone.
“I am fine. Mum told me that you had come around. “Thank you so much,” she said without further hesitation.
“It's not a big deal. “I just want Mum to be on her feet again soon,” she replied.
Eva and Rebecca had a little chat before they hung up the call.
Eva had made sure that she didn't tell her mother what was happening to her. This was one more reason why Eva had to get that money soon.
Arnold, on the other hand, had his PA draft a contract paper for him.
“I can't help her without getting something in return,” he thought to himself while he placed his hand under his chin.
Arnold had come up with the idea of having a contract with Eva, but he was still uncertain regarding what kind of contract it was going to be.
While he was still thinking deeply about ideas, Rebecca walked into his office briskly.
“What is my baby thinking about? What has his face so troubled?” She sat on his lap, forgetting that she was in his office.
“Get off my thighs, Rebecca. We are still in my office,” he said sternly.
Arnold doesn't love his workers knowing about his relationship status with Rebecca. He loves to keep it formal in the office.
“This isn't fair, baby.” She whined as she got up from his lap and sat on the chair opposite him and the table.
“I have given you my reasons several times,” Arnold made himself clear.
Rebecca had no choice but to agree. Arnold is the man in the relationship, and he always makes sure he declares that he has dominance.
He may look so attractive and gentle, but he is a whole different person on the inside.
Eva was so pumped up and nervous to get to the office that morning.
Arnold had scheduled to meet with her, but his plans were still unknown to her.
As early as 7 a.m., she was standing at the doorpost of his office. Obviously, after she had made sure that everything in his office was shining and dust-free.
“Good morning, sir.” She greeted Arnold as he arrived at the office one hour later.
“You're here early as usual,” Arnold said as he walked into his office and took a seat.
He permitted Eva to come in as well. She sat down after Arnold had comfortably taken his seat.
Just to show some respect. “You came here because of the money, right?” Arnold asked.
“Yes, sir. I will be…”
“Marry me, Eva,” Arnold said with a straight look on his face.
Eva, who was shocked and confused, looked at Arnold with a confused expression.
“I don't understand, sir,” she replied.
“Are you short of hearing now? “Marry me, Eva,” he repeated. Giving Eva evidence that he was very serious.
