It has been six days since Cindy drowned in the ocean and we rushed her to the hospital. It has been a very hectic and exhausting six days hut they are finally over. Cindy’s parents have been stressed throughout ever since they came here and I can only imagine how hard it is for them. The medical bill by now must have gone up so much.
Well thank God for my parents because they have been doing everything that they possibly can to take their minds of the situation for as long as they can. Cindy is still unresponsive to communication and gets very angry every time we call her Cindy. We have tried all ways to prove to her who she is by showing her photo albums and videos. Her dad even showed her her birth certificate but she still would not believe it. It was also getting a bit tired for me to continue translating every single word that she says for everybody as I only know a little French.
When Cindy did her auditions, she had listed me as a contact. A few days ago, they had called me to say that Cindy had been listed for the audition call backs, which are supposed to happen today but they could not reach her so I was there only other option to call. This to what to make sure that she will be available and it just broke my heart as I told them that she is hospitalised and will not be able to make it.
This is literally what pushed Cindy to drop everything and move to this city. It is her dream and it will just pass her by. I cant imagine how sad she will be when she regains her memory but knowing Cindy, she will not give up. If anything, she will get up and look for more opportunities until she succeeds.
The doctor comes into the waiting room where Cindy’s parents and I are seated. “I have good news for you all. Cindy is doing so much better now ever since she woke up and there is no need for her to continue staying in the hospital. She is ready to be discharged today.”
“Are you serious? We can take her home? “Mrs Baker asks with tears in her eyes.
“Yes. We just need to run some final tests and then you can take her home.” She says with a wide smile on her face and Cindy’s mom just cant help but stand up hug her before she walks away.
We immediately walk to Cindy’s room to share the good news with her and she already seems to be happy. Maybe the nurse has already told her that she is going home. Within the few days that we have been trying to communicate with her, she has learnt some English words and can barely understand them but cannot speak. This, at least, has made it easier for her parents to talk to her without me necessarily translating. I mean, it is just a few words, but still it’s better than nothing, right? At least she agreed to live with her parents in the AirBnb even though she still insists that she her home is in France.
We help her start packing up her stuff which are very little since she didn’t have anything when she was brought in. Her mom had brought her favourite pillow and blanket from back home when she flew into the city so that Cindy could feel more at home. Of course it didn’t work because she did not even recognize them so they just stayed packed in the bag.
After waiting for about an hour, the doctor comes back to confirm that everything is okay before signing the discharge papers.
“I cant believe that you can finally leave the hospital. Are you excited?” Mr Bakers asks his daughter and Cindy turns to look at him with a smile on her face. She never liked hospitals even before all this but am pretty sure, memory or not, she is also tired of this place.
I help to carry the bag into my dad’s car who will be driving them from the hospital to the home. Cindy sits on the wheelchair and is a bit reluctant to leave the hospital I guess because we are still somewhat strangers but we all finally walk out of the hospital to the parking lot hoping never to return.
