I didn’t know whether to be grateful or just plain annoyed that Jaxon Maddox had decided to, quite literally, throw himself into the middle of my humiliation.
I had barely recovered from the sting of being called weak and embarrassing in front of everyone, when Jaxon, out of nowhere, challenged Instructor Varrow to a duel and beat him in less than a minute.
On one hand, I was a little, just a little, satisfied watching Varrow’s back slam into the ground, but on the other, I couldn’t help but feel like my pride had taken yet another hit.
It wasn’t like I’d asked him to do anything. He’d just taken it upon himself to stand up for me in the most dramatic way possible, and now, the consequences were on his shoulders. I had noticed it immediately, how the other instructors look
