By the next morning, the mysterious message had already spread throughout Ravenwood Academy.
Not publicly.
But enough.
Whispers followed the Ravenwood Five through the hallways as students quietly tried to guess who had sent it.
"Probably some jealous freshman."
"No, I heard Adrian has enemies from basketball."
"What if one of them sent it?"
Rumors spread quickly at Ravenwood.
Especially when they involved people everyone was obsessed with.
Seraphina leaned against her locker while Celestine adjusted her hair using her phone camera.
"If I fail chemistry because of prom rehearsals, I'm suing this school," Celestine complained dramatically.
"You say that like you've ever passed chemistry before," Adrian replied.
Celestine gasped. "That was rude."
"That was honest."
Damien laughed softly while Rafael remained unusually quiet beside them.
Seraphina noticed immediately.
"You okay?" she asked gently.
Rafael looked up quickly before forcing a smile.
"Yeah. Just tired."
Before anyone could continue the conversation, Professor Amelia Cortez suddenly appeared in front of them, a clipboard pressed against her chest.
"Prom committee meeting. Auditorium. Ten minutes."
No one moved.
Professor Cortez narrowed her eyes.
"That wasn't a suggestion."
Celestine sighed dramatically. "I swear she enjoys terrifying students."
"She definitely does," Damien muttered.
The group headed toward the auditorium together as the hallways slowly filled with students rushing to class.
Inside the large theater, dozens of students sat scattered across the seats while teachers discussed the final preparations for Masquerade Night.
Gold decorations covered the stage. Fake roses lined the walls. Soft piano music drifted through the speakers.
Everything looked beautiful.
Almost unreal.
Seraphina sat beside Damien while Adrian and Celestine argued quietly two rows ahead.
"You're still mad at me?" Adrian whispered sharply.
"You embarrassed me yesterday."
"You embarrassed yourself."
Celestine rolled her eyes and looked away.
Meanwhile, Rafael sat alone near the back row, checking his phone repeatedly.
Damien noticed.
Again.
"You seriously need to stop doing that," Damien said quietly.
Rafael frowned. "Doing what?"
"Acting nervous."
"I'm not nervous."
"You look like you committed a crime."
Rafael forced out a laugh, but it sounded hollow.
Before Damien could question him further, Principal Eduardo Villareal stepped onto the stage.
"As all of you know," he began proudly, "Masquerade Night represents Ravenwood Academy's tradition of elegance and excellence."
Celestine leaned toward Seraphina and whispered, "If he says 'excellence' one more time, I'm leaving."
Seraphina laughed softly.
For a moment, everything felt normal again.
Then-
Buzz.
Several students reached for their phones at once.
Including Damien.
His expression changed instantly.
"What?" Adrian asked.
Damien slowly turned his screen toward them.
Another anonymous message.
This time sent only to the five of them.
" Perfect smiles hide ugly secrets. "
The atmosphere shifted immediately.
Celestine looked visibly uncomfortable now.
"Okay, this isn't funny anymore."
Adrian frowned. "Who keeps sending these?"
No one answered.
Even Rafael looked genuinely unsettled.
Professor Cortez suddenly glanced toward their section.
"Is there a problem?"
"No, ma'am," Seraphina answered calmly before anyone else could speak.
Her voice sounded so natural that the teacher immediately continued the meeting without suspicion.
After rehearsal ended, the group walked toward the academy gardens in uneasy silence.
Dark rain clouds gathered above the campus.
"I think someone's targeting us specifically," Damien finally said.
"That's obvious," Adrian replied.
"But why?"
No one had an answer.
Celestine crossed her arms tightly.
"This is seriously creepy."
Seraphina offered her a small smile.
"We shouldn't panic over anonymous messages," she said calmly. "That's probably exactly what they want."
Celestine let out a breath. "You always sound so reasonable."
"Someone has to."
That earned a small laugh from the group, easing the tension for a brief moment as they continued through the gardens.
Suddenly, Sofia Ramirez rushed toward them, holding her phone excitedly.
"You guys are literally everywhere online right now."
Adrian frowned. "What?"
Sofia showed them a campus confession page filled with anonymous posts.
The Ravenwood Five aren't as perfect as they look.
Somebody in their group is hiding something.
Prom night is going to expose everything.
Celestine's face paled.
"Oh my God."
Students nearby had already started staring.
Whispering.
Watching.
And for the first time since the messages began-
the cracks inside the Ravenwood Five were finally beginning to show.
