Chapter 4

When I got home, I grabbed the package waiting outside my door. I collapsed onto the couch, still thinking about what had just happened. It was almost laughable. I'd actually believed my mom had realized she'd done something wrong. After resting for a while, I got up and opened the package. The moment I lifted the lid, I froze. Inside was a set of black lace lingerie, sheer as gauze, along with several other far more suggestive items. A card was tucked on top. It read: Put this on and see for yourself. This stuff works a hell of a lot better than those little toys of yours. 'Disgusting!' A chill ran from the soles of my feet to the back of my head. I dropped the card onto the floor. I pulled out my phone and opened the post my mom had made a week ago. In just seven days, it had racked up more than a hundred thousand views, with over two thousand comments. I scrolled down and found a new comment from my mom, posted after I'd kicked her out. My mom: [My own daughter kicked me out of her 23rd floor apartment over some stupid little toy! I would've been better off raising a dog!] The comments immediately piled on. A: [The post says it's at Cloudview Residences. You can't buy a place there for less than ten million. Bet she didn't earn that money herself. ] B: [What kind of decent woman buys stuff like that? Bet she's bringing random guys back to that apartment every night. Disgusting.] C: [Tsk, tsk. Looking at the photos the poster shared before, her daughter is actually pretty. Too bad she's trash. I wouldn't touch her even if she were free.] D: [Women like that need to be taught a lesson. She needs a man to put her in her place.] The vile comments just kept coming, one after another. My mom had seen them and even joined in, yet she'd never once thought to take the post down. And I'd only found out today. "Ding-dong." The doorbell startled me so badly that I broke out in a cold sweat. I stared at the door and quickly called the building management office. "Stella?" A man's voice came from the other side. "Open up, sweetheart. My present already made it inside. Why are you keeping me out here?"
