"Enough."
My lawyer paused before continuing, "But as your attorney, I need to remind you that litigation should be the last resort. If your mother is willing to issue a public apology and compensate you for the damages, you could settle instead. Would you consider that?"
"No."
I rejected the idea without hesitation.
"I want her to publish a public apology, pin it for thirty days, and lay out everything that happened, without leaving out a single detail. If she leaves out even one thing, I'll see her in court."
My lawyer was silent for two seconds.
"Understood. I'll file the complaint immediately."
The court officially opened the case shortly afterward.
That afternoon, I received a call from the police station. There was an update on the man who had shown up outside my apartment.
