Blood In The Study

Elena’s POV: The light from the desk lamp hit his face. It was Marcus, the head elder. His eyes were cold. He smiled a little and looked at the desk, right where the book was a second ago. "You do not belong in my room," Caleb said, looking at him so furiously .”Looking for something?" He asked. Caleb stepped in front of me. His body went stiff, and a low growl came from his chest. The room felt angry. Marcus laughed. He did not at all look scared of the alpha. "Did you think you could hide things from the council?" Marcus asked. He took a step closer and looked at me. "And the little maid. I knew she was trouble." My hand closed tight on the cold key in my pocket. Marcus raised his hand. Four big guards stepped out of the dark hall, blocking the door. "Take them both," Marcus said. Marcus stayed by the door. His guards blocked the hall. There was no way out. I held the key tight, looked at Caleb's back, and He stood tall like a wall of stone. But his hands shook with rage. His wolf wanted to come out and tear them apart. Marcus took another slow step. "You think you own this pack, Caleb. You play king. But I have my sources, and I was told there’s hidden information, that’s why I came to figure it out myself. A Bird told me He watched you walk through the hall with something bloody and hidden. It sounds to me like something is going on." My chest went tight. One of the servants in the house was a rat, working for Marcus the whole time, just watching Caleb's every move. Caleb let out a loud growl that shook the glass on the desk. A wave of heavy alpha power rolled off him, making the guards step back. "I don’t know what you’re talking about ," Caleb snarled. Marcus stopped smiling. He waved his hand. "Kill them both." The guards rushed forward. --- **Caleb’s POV** My wolf yelled inside my head. He wanted out. He wanted to kill and make the walls red with blood. They dared to spy on me in my own house. They thought a little spy in my staff could trick an Alpha. The first guard jumped at us. I moved fast. I grabbed his throat and slammed him into the shelves, making the books scattered on the ground. He hit the floor and stayed down. "Stay behind me, Elena!" I shouted. Two more guards ran in with knives. My eyes turned gold. I grabbed the first man and threw him across the room. He smashed hard against the wood door. The last guard swung his knife at my arm. I felt the metal cut through my shirt. Blood spilled out. I did not flinch. I grabbed his wrist, snapped his bone, and punched his chest. It all happened fast. The room smelled like sweat and fresh blood. I looked up, breathing hard. I thought we won. Then I saw Marcus. He stayed back by the desk the whole time. While I fought, Marcus moved like a shadow. Before Elena could run, a heavy hand grabbed her hair and yanked her head back. She cried out. Marcus pulled a sharp silver knife from his coat and pressed it flat against her neck. I turned around. When I saw the knife at her skin, the color drained from my face. "Let her go, Marcus," I said. My voice shook the windows. Marcus pressed the knife deeper. A drop of red blood ran down her skin. "Drop to your knees, Alpha," Marcus whispered. "Let's see how much your pride is worth." My knees stayed straight. An Alpha does not kneel. Not to a coward, and never in his own house. The knife cut deeper into Elena's neck. A line of red blood ran down her skin. Every drop felt like hot fire in my chest. My wolf howled inside my head. He wanted to kill everyone in the room. But I forced him to stay still. If I moved too fast, Marcus would hurt her. I looked into Elena's big, scared eyes. She shook and tried not to cry. She looked at me like I was her only safe place. And she was right. I am her safe place. "I said drop down, Caleb," Marcus sneered, his hand tight in her hair. "Your maid is out of time." "You want what is in that drawer, Marcus?" I asked in a low voice. "It is right there. Let her go, and I will give it to you." Marcus laughed a dry sound. "I will take it. But I will take your head, too. A dead Alpha and a dead maid make a clean story." He thought he won. He forgot who built this house. "You think you control the pack," I whispered. I took one step forward. Marcus pulled the knife back. "Stop! One step and she bleeds!" "I am not stopping," I said. Before he could blink, I let go of all my hold. I let out my full Alpha power. A heavy weight filled the room. The windows shook. The guards dropped to their knees and gasped for air. My heavy weight crushed down on them. Marcus staggered. His hand slipped on Elena's hair just a little bit. That was all the time I needed. I moved fast like a flash of light. I ran across the room and grabbed Marcus's wrist. I squeezed until his bone snapped like a dry stick. Marcus screamed. He dropped the knife. It hit the stone floor with a loud clatter. I pushed him hard into the desk. Before he could take a breath, I grabbed his coat and slammed him against the wall. I lifted his feet clean off the floor. "You touch what is mine," I snarled, my voice shaking the whole room, "and I will tear your world to pieces." Marcus hung in the air. His face turned red as he fought my hands. His men stayed on their knees, too weak to help. The house was quiet. I looked at Elena to check on her. Then I looked back at Marcus. "Tell the council this," I whispered. "You picked the wrong fight."
