Matty
_____
I woke lying in a pool of cold squirt, covered in the witch’s scent as day broke and light slowly filtered into my room. My stomach turned. It took a few seconds for me to remember what had happened. At some point during our session, she did something to me, something to make me want her, and I’d enjoyed being her slave.
She had a sick sense of humor; Alphas were the furthest from slaves, so it bothered me on multiple levels. I only craved my mate; I had found the witch revolting, and the entire slave experience was humiliating. She’d even left me lying in her c*m.
I sat up and shook my head. I felt dirty and used. Was that how my bed partners felt after I’d finished with them? Was that how the Honey felt when she left my room? Gods, I didn’t bother to ask her name.
“You’re a d.amn i***t, too,” Torin growled. “You shouldn’t have messed with that witch.”
I got up, the witch’s juices dripping off me. I needed a hot shower to erase her scent from my body and the memory from my mind. Torin paced, clearly unhappy with my choices. I wasn’t happy either, but if the witch came through with the spells, then the only two things that mattered to us would be resolved. That was indeed all I cared about.
“I did what needed to be done, Torin. I didn’t like it, but it will get us what we need. You should be grateful that I took one for the team.”
Torin huffed and continued to pace, leaving me uneasy. I looked around. Did the witch actually keep her end of the bargain?
A folded note lay on the side table by the sofa. My name was on it in a flowing script that seemed rather formal. I froze for a second, an instinctive reaction to something evil. I shook off the feeling; that was what I’d sunk so low to get. I took it and opened it slowly.
There were two sheets of paper and the titles made clear which was which. Suppression of Power was one, and the other simply said, Locator. The words in the incantations made no sense to me but were written phonetically, making it easy for me to pronounce correctly. The witch was indeed true. She could have given me the spells in a different alphabet and would still be keeping her word. Instead, she went out of her way to ensure the success of the spell.
I’d make sure the spells worked; for what I’d gone through to get them, I’d get my ‘money’s’ worth. The Elite meeting was later that day. My jaw clenched; I would not let the opportunity go to waste.
I left the pages on the table and headed to the bathroom. I ran the water at full blast, as hot as I could stand, and scrubbed my skin clean. The witch had said that I needed something of Gia’s; what could I use, and how would I get it? I’d have to keep an eye open for an opportunity and take whatever I could get. Maybe I could get into her room and find her hairbrush or something, or would a single strand of her hair work? If I could get it.
I dried myself and got dressed. I had a few things to do before I went to the meeting, and it would be a few hours’ drive to the Royal Pack. Torin’s excitement stirred. Now that the possibility of revenge was at hand, his mood had improved drastically. My alpha wolf was dying for payback.
“We’ll get her, Torin. I’ll make sure of it,” I said. It was a promise.
“We better,” Torin growled, his anger growing.
I went to my office and attended to the paperwork I needed to get done. Ben met me in the garage when it was time to go. Betas weren’t allowed in the actual meetings but tended to accompany their Alphas anyway.
I drove, preferring to be in control. It was a pleasant enough day, with blue skies and a gentle breeze yet still quite cool. The cheerful weather was at odds with my murderous mood. The road was boring, having driven it so many times, and my mind drifted to the meeting. I just needed one of her possessions, and I would deliver retribution.
My knuckles tightened on the steering wheel. The Luna Queen would be nothing without her powers, and despite never having met them, she had already made many enemies. She’d be a sitting duck for them. I wasn’t the only werewolf who hated humans.
I would have loved to be the one to see the life leave her eyes, but I wouldn’t jeopardize my pack; the king would surely kill me in a most gruesome way if he even suspected I had anything to do with her death. No, much better to let others do that part. I would suppress her powers, and the rest would happen naturally.
I wished I could have a better, more thought-out plan, but everything would depend on getting the possession. Then I’d have to recite the incantation in the same room as her. There was no way I could memorize the gibberish, so I would have to read it from the page, and I’d have to do it without anyone noticing. Maybe I could do it while everyone’s attention was on a speaker. The last thing I needed was for the werewolf king to rip my throat out. I would find a way to make it work.
Eventually, we made it to the Royal Pack, and I steeled myself. I’d have to show that I hated her, but not too much so as to be assumed as the culprit when the spell took effect. Ben and I entered, and I greeted everyone gruffly. The omegas automatically avoided me, giving me a wide berth and none daring to make eye contact except for one who offered me a drink from a tray that trembled in her hands. She, too, looked down as she stood in front of me.
I took the drink and went into the meeting room. The room had always impressed me; it was a ballroom really, repurposed as a luxurious board room of sorts. The armchairs were my favorite thing about it. Why not be comfortable while enduring long, drawn-out meetings?
Davin and Gia were already there, as were Bernado and Kieran. We were still waiting for Jonathan and Antony. I greeted them with a nod, and much to my relief, they came in a minute later, which meant we could get on with the meeting and limit random chit-chat. Torin and I were both on edge. We were playing a dangerous game, but nobody disrespected us and lived to tell the tale.
I sat a seat away from Gia; although it would be harder to get any personal effects at that distance, sitting next to her would have been too suspicious. I tapped the table, my fingers unable to stay still.
The meeting started with word of another war and a second Scion. I half-listened; I couldn’t care less about the war and another d.amned Scion. One was already too much as far as I was concerned. Everyone else, however, had lots to say on the matter, and plans were being formed to prepare everyone. We would all fight together. However, each pack would be responsible for training their own warriors. That was all we could do for the moment, and be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.
We broke for coffee, and I watched Gia carefully. It seemed like that would be my only opportunity to find a possession. Engaging her wasn’t a possibility either; it would be much too questionable, so I just stood back and watched.
“I hope we are not going to have any problems,” Davin said next to me. I hadn’t even noticed him walking up to me.
“None at all,” I said, looking him in the eye as I spoke.
He wasn’t happy, but he didn’t say anything further. Then I spotted it; it was as if the Gods were looking out for me. A long blonde hair sat on Davin’s shoulder. There was only one person it could have come from. Thinking quickly, I slapped Davin on the shoulder and lifted the hair off him.
“No problems at all,” I repeated like an i.diot with a smile.
He nodded, turned, and walked back to Gia. I turned away, too, looking for a place to read out the incantation. A door stood ajar; I could stand there, close, yet almost out of sight. If I turned my back to them, they wouldn’t see the page. Even if they did, it would just seem as if I was reading a note since I wasn’t facing or looking at any of them. Everyone stood around in bunches, drinking coffee and chatting.
I paused for a moment; did I really want to go through with it? I was so close to finding my mate and just her scent had already changed me so much. What would Davin suffer if he lost his mate? The humiliation of her riding Torin like a bull, the sniggers, and the shame at being toyed with like that, by a human no less, came to mind. My cheeks heated as my jaw clenched. No, she had this coming.
I walked to the door casually, positioning myself perfectly. Just then I had an idea, a flash of brilliance. I took out my phone and pretended to dial. Then I started reading the incantation under my breath. I forced myself not to look at her even though I was burning to know if it was working. I focussed on pronouncing each word correctly, holding the strand of hair in a tight fist. Just as the last words passed my lips, a collective gasp rang out. Did it work? Suddenly, Torin went ballistic, shouting mate over and over in my head.
My head jerked as I looked at the scene. My mate was right there, holding Gia’s hand, and then they both fainted.
