“Good morning, my love,” Davin said as daylight filled our room, his voice husky with sleep. He wiped his eyes and stretched his arms. “Why are you up so early?”
I smiled; I couldn’t get over just how handsome he was, especially with that bed hair.
“Couldn’t sleep. I thought I’d pass the time translating, and you will never believe what I found.” I could hear the pitch of my voice rise and how I had started talking faster, but I couldn’t stop it; I was excited. Davin’s eyebrow raised.
“What is it?” he asked.
“There are two Scions. It’s here in the diary. The Morrigan came to Eithne’s daughters and told them their descendants would be the hope of the world.”
“Whoa, whoa… slow down. Two Scions, are you sure? And who or what is the Morrigan?” Davin’s eyebrows furrowed as if he were considering what I had said very carefully.
“Two Scions, I checked my translation twice. There is another one out there and we have to find him or her as soon as possible. I think we need to work together to win the war.”
Davin’s eyes widened and he gasped.
“The war? We just won it,” he spluttered, getting out of bed and walking over to me. He kissed my forehead and gave me a gentle hug. I shook my head slowly.
“We won a battle. We didn’t even defeat Fenrir really. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now; I’m sure that it isn’t over.
The Morrigan is an Irish Goddess of war and fate. It seems she has been manipulating things for hundreds of years already, setting the chess pieces on the proverbial board.”
“Okay. I think I need some coffee before I can process all this,” Davin said, already walking to the bathroom. “And a shower. Care to join me?”
He turned and grinned widely. The man really couldn’t get his mind off my body, greedy wolf.
“If I do, we won’t make it to training on time.” I smiled. “I’m gonna pass, you get going.”
Training passed uneventfully. I joined in amidst curious looks but everyone, even the red auras, kept themselves in check. Scarlett and I really needed to have a chat about this pack and why some of them had such a problem with me.
Not long after, we all gathered for breakfast and it was time to spill the beans. Eyes widened in shock as I dropped the bomb of a second Scion.
“We need to find him or her urgently,” Noah said, his tone solemn. As the last words left his mouth he stiffened. Everyone at the table froze. Noah’s eyes were permanently white so we couldn’t tell if he was having a vision.
We waited with bated breath, nobody daring to say a word.
Finally, Noah exhaled and his body slumped. His expression was conflicted, a mixture of concern and fear. A chill ran down my spine.
“What is it?” Scarlett asked.
“Another battle, with monsters I’ve never seen or heard of before.” He shuddered visibly. “There was a young woman wearing a dark cloak and with her was…” Noah stopped as if what he had seen was unbelievable.
“What? What did she have with her?” Davin asked, impatient as always.
“A seer, like me,” Noah breathed out, running a hand through his hair.
Noah took a moment as everyone seemed to process the news. War, another Scion and we all knew what another seer would mean to Noah. Then he spoke again.
“The woman, she seemed to be important; she fought alongside us. She must be the other Scion.”
There was something about his expression. He was hiding something. Had he seen more than he had told us? If he wasn’t sharing everything, it could only mean that it was bad, so bad that it would affect us negatively if we knew.
“Is that all you saw, Noah?” I asked, keeping my tone light and making sure it didn’t sound like I was accusing him.
His eyebrow twitched. “That was all,” he said quietly, his tone somber. He was lying.
I decided to let it go. I had no idea what it was like to know some of the future and be responsible for that information. Would knowing affect the outcome or create self-fulfilling prophecies? Was it possible to create a butterfly effect? My head started hurting and suddenly I was glad it wasn’t my problem. I would accept Noah’s decision of what to tell us graciously.
I nodded.
“The Elite are meeting tomorrow,” Davin said. “We will discuss the way forward with the Alphas then. In the meantime, let’s meet in my office and run through everything we have. Noah, can you give us a detailed description of the woman? Then we’ll send out some trackers to scout the area and the nearest human towns for her.”
Davin got straight to business and we all went to his office after breakfast. As we sat down, I thought of the Alphas in the Elite Guard. Matthew was my biggest concern. I already had one enemy who had made a move against me in the pack; Matthew was an even bigger threat. He outright loathed me and everyone knew it.
I had to watch my back; I had enemies coming from all directions.
