Chapter 16 The Mastermind Behind

1384 Words
Beneath the pink-hued lighting, two naked bodies intertwined, engaged in the most primal of acts. “Harder… harder… I’m almost there… ah…” The woman’s voice sounded strange, as if she had a lisp when speaking. Responding to her signal, the man thrust more vigorously, sending her over the edge. A few minutes later, with a low groan from the man, their movements ceased abruptly. The only sound left in the room was the heavy, ragged breathing of both. A look of satisfaction on her face, the woman flicked her hair to the side, revealing the face that had been hidden. It was none other than Cheng Mei— the same woman who had been slapped twice by Qin Feng. No wonder she spoke with a lisp; three of her teeth were already gone for good. The man, in his early forties, had a square face and thick lips. “Honey, did your men take care of that kid yet?” Cheng Mei asked, breaking the silence. The man took a few deep breaths before opening his eyes. “Don’t worry. When my guys take on a job, they get it done.” Wrapping herself around him like an octopus, Cheng Mei said, “But that kid’s really good at fighting. This morning, over a dozen bodyguards couldn’t take him down. You’re the one who recommended those bodyguards to me, right? Turns out they’re all useless.” “No matter how good he is at fighting, can he beat a gun?” The man scoffed. “To get revenge for you, I sent out five guns, and Skinny’s leading the team. If nothing goes wrong, he’s probably full of bullet holes by now.” Cheng Mei clapped her hands in delight. “Perfect! Oh, and did your men tell him it was me who wanted him dead?” The man glared at her. “Do you think this is my first time doing this? Don’t I even know the basics? Besides, even if they did tell him, so what? Do you really think he’d crawl out of the underworld to get revenge on you?” Cheng Mei thought to herself— he was right. What could a dead man do, no matter how much he knew? … On the outskirts of the southern part of the city, five guns were aimed at Qin Feng. Beside them stood seven men wielding machetes, and six cars surrounded the area. Any ordinary person would have been trembling with fear at the sight. Yet Qin Feng wore a faint smile. When he was twelve, he had undergone training for exactly this kind of scenario— back then, seven military-issued pistols had been pointed at him. Looking at the weapons in these men’s hands, most were knockoffs, made in small workshops. Their accuracy and firepower were extremely limited. They might work at close range, but beyond twenty meters, their precision dropped to a ridiculous level. “So you really are here to kill me,” he said in a calm tone. Skinny, the tall, thin man twirling a machete on the edge of the group, laughed. “You’re the calmest guy I’ve ever seen— I’ll give you that. Don’t worry, this time next year, I’ll burn some paper money for you.” “Save it for yourself!” As Qin Feng spoke, his body moved. From the start, the five gunmen had agreed: only the two in the front would fire, while the others stood guard. There was no other way— their guns were so unreliable that if all five shot at once, they’d definitely hit their own men by mistake. None of them had expected their target to vanish so suddenly. In the split second they froze, Qin Feng darted from his original position. He took a diagonal step and appeared beside the gunman closest to him. With a swift wave of his right hand, a sharp blade slit the man’s throat. The gunman only saw a blur of movement before feeling a cold sting on his neck. Moments later, his consciousness faded, and he collapsed to the ground. “Shoot him!” Skinny screamed at the top of his lungs. Bang! Bang! The two quickest gunmen pulled the triggers. Flames erupted from the muzzles, and bullets whistled through the air. But in the chaos, they had no time to aim. Adding to that, Qin Feng was moving too fast— even if they had tried to aim, it would have been useless. All the bullets missed. Qin Feng slid behind the second gunman, and with a quick stretch and pull of his hands, he wrapped a garrote around the man’s neck. Bang! Bang! This time, the bullets hit a human body— but they struck their own comrade. The man hiding behind remained completely unharmed. Qin Feng grabbed the fallen man’s gun without hesitation. He didn’t even bother aiming; he fired two shots in quick succession, then hurled the gun like a projectile. Two men fell to the ground. A third was knocked unconscious by the flying pistol. The entire sequence happened in the blink of an eye. In less than three seconds, four of the five gunmen were dead, one was injured, and Qin Feng emerged unscathed. “Cut him down!” Skinny was the first to charge, swinging his machete wildly. If guns couldn’t kill him, this primitive weapon stood no chance. They might as well take it back to cut watermelons— they were nowhere near qualified to use it on a person. Qin Feng disarmed Skinny with his bare hands, then kicked him to the ground. He grabbed the machete and stabbed it into the chest of the next man who rushed at him. He disarmed another, stabbed again, and soon all six men lay dead. Skinny had just propped himself up on his elbows when Qin Feng returned and stepped on his shoulder, slamming his face against the hard asphalt road. “If you don’t want to die, answer my questions honestly,” Qin Feng said, pressing down harder with his foot. “If your answers satisfy me, I might consider letting you live. Remember— this isn’t a negotiation. First question: what’s your name?” Gone was his earlier arrogance. He hurried to reply, “My name’s Skinny.” “Who ordered you to kill me?” Qin Feng asked his second question. Skinny’s mouth was full of dirt, and his lips were scraped raw, bleeding nonstop. Gritting his teeth, he said, “It was Brother Kui! Hero, please let me go! I’m just a small fry doing this for money— I’m not worth killing!” His change of attitude was abrupt. Half a minute earlier, he’d been threatening to kill Qin Feng; now he was begging for his life. “Brother Kui? I’ve never even heard that name. Why would he want me dead?” Qin Feng pressed further. Skinny replied, “He’s getting revenge for Chen Hu from the Tiger Gang. You beat up dozens of his men yesterday— Brother Kui couldn’t swallow that anger…” “Bullshit!” Qin Feng cut him off, stabbing a knife straight down. The blade pierced Skinny’s shoulder blade, pinning him to the road. Skinny let out a pig-like scream, thinking: This guy is ruthless! How did he know I was lying? And he didn’t even give me a chance to correct myself! Qin Feng picked up another knife, patted Skinny’s cheek, and sneered. “Brother Kui getting revenge for Chen Hu? Do you take me for a three-year-old? Chen Hu wouldn’t even dare to come himself— do you think someone else would be stupid enough to stick their neck out for him? You get one more chance. Lie again, and you’re dead.” Qin Feng knew full well that the call to the police station that morning had come from a leader at the Ministry of Public Security. Fatty Ma couldn’t have hidden anything about Chen Hu from his superiors. Even if Chen Hu held a grudge, Fatty Ma would never have let him act recklessly. Skinny hurried to correct himself, “It was that woman Cheng Mei! She came to Brother Kui this afternoon and asked him to kill you!” This answer, Qin Feng believed.
