The Waited Shift

2512 Words
Once we returned home I barely looked at my mother, Inside I knew her wolf loved me, but that wasn’t my mother, that was just another part of her that I will never see. Chase wouldn’t stop glaring at my mother ever since she attempted to make me challenger her. My father barely looked at her either, he made it clear he was upset with her, and if she tried to reject him, he wouldn’t accept it prior punishment for attacking his daughter. My mother only growls at me every time I am near her, but inside her eyes I see her wolf trying to comfort me, trying to show her emotions within her eyes behind the rage that always sparked there when she saw me. “Harper, have you heard anything from your wolf lately? “Chase whispered to me. He had tried communicating with my wolf to try and see why she wouldn’t let me shift, but the only thing she ever told him was, “She’s too fragile at the moment, we must be patient. “. Chase had fed me more then I have eaten before after that and made sure I had extra training to stay fit. He knows how important shifting is to me and will go across the world just to make sure It happens. Chase woke me up early in the morning by leaving kisses down my neck. I groaned turning over to smile at him. “Babe it’s early… “I mumbled covering my face with the blanket. He nudged me and I opened my eyes to see nothing but love and affection in them. “Harper your wolf, she talked to me last night. “He smiled happily, and I swear my heart skipped a beat. It had been months since the extra training and the consistent eating of healthy foods. Hey there sunshine, I believe you’re ready now, I am sorry I had kept you waiting all this time. My wolf Jasper hums inside my head. I couldn’t believe it; I am finally ready to shift! I jump out of bed to gather some clothes and make my way downstairs. My father was waiting smiling at me, I guess I had forgot to mention a key factor in my story.. My wonderful mate spoke with my father, and he told him that he was forced into beating me down in that basement, he was afraid my mother would reject him if he hadn’t done what he was told to do by her, so he did it to please her, but had told me that he regretted every bit of it and would do anything to make it up to me. I still loved him, and I can’t believe how much control she has over him. I understand why he was scared of her rejecting him, Alpha’s have a higher chance of either going rouge or killing themselves because of rejection, so once an Alpha or anyone in that matter gets rejected they are closely monitored by the Once I meet my father downstairs he places a hand on my shoulder and squeezes. “You’ll do fine dear, I promise. “My father told me. I didn’t know if I was to believe him, nor did I care, all I know if the one of the people who mean everything to me will be there when I shift. We walk outside and I have a change of clothes waiting for me on a decent sized rock. I was nervous, I wasn’t sure what I was going to feel during this shift. “You’ll do fine Princess don’t worry. “My father smiled at me. Are you ready? My wolf cooed at me, she was just as excited as I was. “Of course! “I smiled at myself knowing that this waiting must have amount to something. I started feeling pain within my side and my legs making me fall to the floor.. this was it, I was finally shifting! **Chase’s POV** She was in pain, I could feel it inside me. I stared at her in disbelief as her body crumbled to the floor with small jerks of her limbs in effort to stop the pain. The alpha was tense as he watched his daughter in extreme pain, her screams were definitely not muted, they could be heard around the whole forest. Soon members of the pack were filing out into the clearing now, seeing their future Luna shift for the first time. It seemed like hours when she was finally fully shifted. She was a pale grey wolf that almost looked white with black splotches over her pelt. Her eyes were hazel but glowed an ere pale blue. She was huge, she looked bigger than her father, she was bigger than my wolf and that was scary enough. The entire pack then shifted, wolves a mixture of cream, brown, silvers, and grays. Her fathers wolf was a tad smaller standing in comparison to her father. The Luna walked out of the pack house and growled as she hadn’t know who the bigger she-wolf was standing next to her mate, but in her eyes you could see her wolf trying to surface. The Luna shifted but you could see she wasn’t in control as she trotted to Harper and left a million licks upon her wolf, wrapping her head around onto her shoulder and purring. Harper’s tail wagged knowing her mother wasn’t in control, or else the outcome would have been much different. The entire pack went on a run with their soon to be Luna and current Alpha in the lead, I barely was able to keep up with Harper’s wolf but she paced herself beside me while still staying in the lead. Valentine was staring at her daughter half the time with pride in her eyes, but occasionally you could see her eyes glaze over as the current Luna was fighting for control, this lasted almost an hour before we returned to the pack house again. Harper wasn’t wanting to shift back, as she was enjoying her time as her wolf. I tried my best to assure her that her wolf needs rest, and that she has to shift back. She gave in and shifted behind a tree and changing into her clothes, the other pack hugged and congratulated her before heading back into the pack house to lounge around as training was canceled today upon celebrating Harper finally shifting. The Luna would flare at her daughter and before Harper could register her mother shoved her into the pillar that stood between the living room and the kitchen. “You think now that you have shifted you can mate with Chase and take my place? “She snarled and Harper was taken aback by her sudden accusations. “Mother it was bound to happen at some point. “Harper’s sister Misty budged in, causing her mother to look at her with soft eyes. “But darling you’re much more fit than this… mistake. “She growled back at Harper and she flinched. I could feel a shift in power, power that dominated over the current Luna’s which again questioned who she use to before she was Luna. “Mother.. “Harper heaved as she grabbed her mother’s arms and shoved her off. Her eyes were shifted to hazel as you could tell she was pretty ticked off. “Now that I’m able to replace you I will no longer take your BULLSHIT! “She boomed using her new found Alpha tone. Her mother flinched, but stood her ground. Harper’s father sighed and leaned back against the door watching his mate and pup go at it again for the thousandth time this week, but you can see a hint of pride he had in his daughter lingering in his eyes. The Luna started to growl as she stepped further toward her daughter closing the gap. “Are you trying to challenge me again? Haven’t you learned the first time? “She smirked thinking she won the last battle that was never even a battle to begin with. “You know what mother… “Harper growled at her, “I do challenge you. “The whole pack gasped at Harper’s challenge. Normally the heir of the Alpha title would need to find their mate and mark them and have completed the mating process to earn their title. But a long lost tradition could always be upheld if they challenge the current Luna or Alpha and win, they can receive the title even before finding their mate and completing the process. Harper grabbed her mother by the ear and dragged her outside, her mother growling furiously in protest. Once everyone was gathered outside Harper threw her mother to the ground and shifted. Her mother’s eyes widen seeing the difference of height between the both of them, but height never mattered to wolves, it was skill. The Luna shifted as well and was the puniest thing compared to Harper, it was now clear that her mother was an Omega before she had been a Luna, meaning she must have been greedy for the title, and her mother wasn’t actually her fathers mate. I had the gut feeling to ask and so I turned to the Alpha and braced for the answer, but the Alpha already sensed my question, “No, the Luna is not actually my mate. It was a forced upon marriage from her parents, she was greedy for the title. I only love her because of the mate bond, nothing else. “The Alpha sighed. “Did you ever find your actual mate? “I asked him, he gave a sad expression and look at one of the females in the back who were staring softly at Harper as her and her mother battled. “Lindsey is my mate. I never rejected her.. “He said with a hint of sorrow in his voice. “I love Lindsey more then I love Chelsey. “That was the Lunas name, he has guessed. “Why don’t you accept her as your mate? “I asked him, and he looked at me with amusement in his eyes. “I’ve been seeing her in secret, I’ve not decided either to mark her as mine or just dump Chelsey and complete the process with Lindsey in general. “The alpha scoffed. “Chelseys parents are dead so there’s no rebuttals about it now. “He noted. I had the clever idea, Chelsey isn’t the true Luna of the pack, meaning Harper has every right to strip the title without winning the challenge. “Alpha, if you may call Lindsey over here. “I asked him and he looked confused but could see the plan I was unfolding. “Lindsey.. “He whispered to her, she looked his way with a saddened expression. “Come here love.. “He urged her and a smile started creeping on her soft expression. She hurriedly scooted through the crowd and made her way to the Alpha. “Yes Miles? “She said softly, her voice was angelic, like birds chirping in the morning sun. “Let me mark you.. “He said shyly, and Lindsey’s eyes widen. “But.. Chelsey..”She mumbled staring at Harper and Chelsey. Harper had her mother pinned down by the throat. “She isn’t the true Luna of the pack, if you want this challenge to end by default I need to mark you, I see how you stare at Harper everyday, you view her as your own even though she’s not. “He put his hand on her cheek and brushed it softly. I could hear her muffle a small ok as the Alpha leaned into her neck, pecking at her marking spot. Lindsey had a strong aurora around her already even when she isn’t marked, she’s the Beta’s sister of course. The Beta looked over and saw the Alpha leaning over his sister and looked at me in confusion. “He’s going to mark Lindsey.. “He told the Beta and his mouth formed an O. He was the Alphas childhood friend, he knew he never wanted to marry Chelsey, and was always waiting to find his mate to get out of it, but they were late on finding their mate, as that could be why Harper was late on shifting. There was another change of power that curled in waves around the pack as they stared at their Alpha. He had Marked Lindsey, and it was clear now the Chelsey was not actually his mate. **Harper’s POV** I looked over to where the shift of power was coming from to see my father bent over another female, caressing her shoulder. Your father just marked his mate. Jasper said in my head which left me bubbling with questions. I looked at my mother half expecting to see her doubling in pain from her mate marking another female, but she wasn’t. I saw the same confused look on her face as she watched her former mate mark some other female until realization hit her. “YOU BASTARD! “She screeched inside the packs mind-link. She charged at the Alpha only to freeze when the female growled the most menacing growl the entire pack has ever heard. Whines were heard around the pack. “Watch your tone Omega! “The female boomed. I was utterly confused, lost, and somewhat happy. “As you all should know, you dear Luna here isn’t actually your Luna! “She started with a smirk on her face, I loved her attitude. “She forced a marriage upon your Alpha because she was hungry for the title. She was actually an Omega, your Alpha waited and waited to find his mate, in this instance me, just to get out of it. “She said softly before turning upon my mother, “But each day she seduced him into mating with her, little does she know he never fully marked her. As you see, marking is only done with the Canines fully extend into the pairs necks, since she only marked your Alpha, the mating process was ever actually completed. But there was still enough of a bond there, but it wasn’t entirely there, or else she would have been in a lot of pain once he marked me. “She smugly said to my mother. My mother grew into a fit of rage before I grabbed the back of her neck and slammed her into the tree. “YOU LIER! “I growled and I swear it could have shook the earth. “I’m sorry you had to find out the hard way little dove.. “The female looked at me with grief in her eyes. “Then… I’m half Omega? “I whispered in mind link to everyone since wolves cannot talk. “No.. that’s where you must understand. You’re not actually her daughter. “She cooed and my whole world froze.. I’m not actually her daughter?
