  EVE   Melinda's perfume hit me before her arms did. Sweet. Overpowering. Like she wanted the whole world to smell her coming.   She hugged me immediately, squeezing like we were long-lost best friends instead of two women who barely tolerated each other.   "Oh my God, Eve," she squealed, her fake smile nearly blinding. "I haven't seen you in ages! Courtney said you were in rehab!"   Rehab. My smile froze.   Of course, she said that.   Just how many people had Courtney told?
