  ROMAN   By the time I was done for the night, Eve was still asleep. Not the kind of sleep where you toss and turn or murmur things under your breath... no, she was out cold.   Her head leaned against the car window as I drove, her hair hiding half her face.   I didn't wake her when I got home. Instead, I carried her, one arm under her knees, the other around her shoulders, all the way upstairs to my room. She felt so small in my arms, too fragile for the kind of world she came from. I kicked the door shut quietly and lay her down on my bed.   I showered quickly and slid into bed beside her. She curled closer in her sleep, her hand resting against my chest like it belonged there.
