Chapter 20: What I Choose to See

1633 Words

POV: Amelia I did not sleep much. I lay awake long after Ethan's breathing evened out beside me, staring at the ceiling, turning the photo over in my mind. Elena and Ethan are in the garden. Her hand on his arm. The angle is just wrong enough to hurt. By the time the sun came up, I had stopped asking myself whether I believed them. I had decided on something instead. I was done waiting for someone else to hand me the truth. Clara had done that. Sophia had done that. A dozen anonymous numbers had done that, and every time, I had let the fear decide what to do next. Not this time. If I wanted to know what was real between Elena and Ethan, I would not wait for another message to tell me. I would go and look for myself. I got up before the children woke, dressed, and went to find Elena.
