We gathered in the living room the next morning. My father sat in the big armchair, looking at old photos my mother had saved. The children played on the floor with the new toys Ethan bought them.
My father looked up at me. “You have your mother’s smile. Strong and kind at the same time. I missed seeing it every day.”
I sat beside him. “Tell me more about what happened. How did Victoria keep you hidden all these years?”
He took my hand. “She had me in a private clinic. Told everyone I died in the same crash as her husband. But I was alive. She used me as insurance. If your mother ever spoke, she would hurt me.”
Ethan brought coffee for everyone. “We can change that now. I have lawyers working on full records. Your name will be cleared. You can live freely with us.”
