The motel door creaked open as I stepped inside Room 12. Clara stood there holding a gun pointed straight at me.
“Close the door fast,” she hissed. “They followed you.”
I slammed it shut, heart slamming. “What is this? You said safe house.”
Clara lowered the gun but kept it ready. “Plans change. Sophia sold you out. Lila’s men are two rooms down. Sit.”
I dropped the duffel and sat on the bed edge. “Twins? The ultrasound is in the bag. Explain now.”
