Chapter 2

-DAISY POV- I prise my eyes open and wince at the bright lights above me. There's beeping and and the sound of machines whirring around me and I turn my head to look around. The room is white and blue and very clean which is freaking me out a bit, and various tubes sticking out my me leading to weird bags on a pole.  What the f**k is going on? I try to sit up regretting my choices instantly and I cry out in pain falling back to the bed I'm on. To be fair the bed is a very welcome addition, I've been sleeping on a floor for 4 years and before that I slept on a broken sofa. That's when I realise there's someone holding my hand as their grip tightens when I cry out. I look down and find a very very beautiful man with messy sandy blonde hair and honey brown eyes staring at me with concern all over his face.  It's him. It's my mate. Gasping, I snatch my hand away and cower away from him thinking about the horrible things he's going to do to me. Every man I've met in the last 4 years has hurt me in some way and just because he's my mate does not mean he's any different. "Hey hey, it's ok I'm sorry" he says softly stepping back from me with his hands up by his head. "I didn't mean to scare you." I don't move, breathing hard as I stare at him with wide eyes.  "Who are you" I croak, forgetting I haven't spoken to anyone in over a week. "My name is Xander. It's ok, I'm not going to hurt you I promise" he doesn't move, just stands and stares at me. "Where am I?" "You're in the black blood pack hospital. You've been here for 3 days" he reaches and scratches behind his head, his biceps flexing. I really look like a toothpick compared to him. "I- I don't remember how I got here" I tear my eyes away and look down at the bed. "well when we found you you were very close to death and you passed out in my arms on the way to the pack territory. I brought you straight here" he sounds awkward, almost afraid of me. "Have you been here the whole time?" My eyes find his again, noticing how tired he looks. "Yeah, I um, I didn't want to leave" he looks away shyly. I relax a bit and gesture for him to sit down. If he was trying to hurt me he would have done it by now. I think. He smiles as he takes a seat. " Can you tell me you're name?"  "Erm... It's Daisy." I look down at the bandages on my wrists. "It's nice to meet you Daisy" I smile weakly as Xander stares at me with those beautiful honey eyes. "I don't want to push you, but... what happened to you Daisy?" He speaks softly and for some reason I feel almost safe hearing his voice. It's nice, after so long of being afraid. I mean I still am, but right now, I feel... ok. And then I remember. I think he can tell I'm getting uncomfortable because he reaches for my hand again and I flinch at the zap of his skin against mine. He takes his hand back and frowns, as if he's mentally scolding himself. "You don't have to tell me anything, I'm sorry I asked." "No it's ok. It doesn't hurt me anymore" I whisper truthfully. Hurt flashes through his eyes at this but he nods. "I was born rogue and my parents hated me. When I was 15 a man offered to buy me and they agreed. He took me to a horrible place and locked me up with other girls like me. He tattooed us all to mark us and from then on we were his packs property. I tried to fight it for the first 2 years, but then my wolf left me and I... I gave up. I gave into the beatings and the rapings and stopped fighting. Last week the leader tried to r**e me though and I fought. That's why I was in that room on my own." Xander hasn't said anything so I turn to look at him and frown at the tear that runs down his cheek. "I'm so sorry" he whispers and I smile back.  "I'm not." His eyebrows knit together in confusion."It just showed me that there's no good in this world. It's better to know that and expect it then to not and get hurt over and over again." Silnence settles between us and I try not to react to the pain on his face. I don't get why he cares so much anyway. I think for a bit before turning to Xander again. "The other girls. What happened to them?" "We saved everyone and they're fine. A couple are still in hospital but most of them have started living with the pack. They weren't as injured as you are" he looks apologetically at me. I wish he wouldn't, I don't need his sympathy. "Can I see them?" "Of course" his eyes glaze over and I guess he's mind linking someone. He smiles at me when they return to normal and not even a minute later there's a knock at the door. A girl with red hair pokes her head around the door and squeaks, bursting the door open. 8 girls pile into the room and Xander stands up, looking slightly taken aback. The girls run over to me and Molly, the redhead climbs on the bed. I'm smothered in a group hug as they all crowd around me but they step away when a growl echoes through the room.  "Be gentle she's still healing" Xander mutters and the girls look between us with confusion.  "Daisy, why is the alpha here?" Molly whispers making my eyes grow wide. "ALPHA?" I mean it makes sense, he has the build of an alpha and he was the one giving orders when he rescued us.  Thanks a lot Moon Goddess. "Could you leave us alone for a bit Xander?" He looks reluctant but nods and leaves the room, his arms crossed in front of him. "Ok what is going on" Cal, a tall brunette arches an eyebrow at me. "You can't say anything but... he's my mate" I whisper. "You're MATE?" Molly yells. "SSHHHHH! I don't know about you guys but I don't plan on sticking around here long so it won't be an issue soon. Anyway, how are you all?" The girls all exchange a look. "What?" "Daisy, we like this pack. They don't treat us badly, in fact they've completely accepted us. They treat us like one of the pack." "Are you kidding? How can you all trust them? Everyone has a second motive, no exceptions. They're probably making us seem welcome so they can attack us when we're not looking." "Look Daisy, I know you were in there for a long time, and we all know they abused you the most but you can't expect the whole world to be like them. Some people are good Daisy. And this pack, these people... they won't hurt us."  I look down at my wrists, remembering the feeling of the silver. I Get a glimpse of the tattoo on my arm. The bruising on my legs has faded but it's still there on my shin. They did this to me. My parents sold me and they did this to me. Why should these people be any different. "Look I don't want to talk about this right now. Lets talk about you guys." The hours pass by as they all tell me about the rescue and what they've been doing in the pack and all the food they've been eating. It's good to talk again.
