“Yesterday something very strange happened,” I told luna as we walked home from school.
"Oh, what?" she asks eagerly. "Do you know a guy named Aiden caddel ? Is he a senior on the basketball team?"
"Of course."
"Yes, of course. Well, he spoke to me. It was almost like how I should talk to you. . . don't know. do not forget. You're stupid." I laugh. "No, what? Tell me now - I'm crazy!”
"OK. But believe me first, I know all too well how stupid that sounds," I warned her.
"Oh, God, tell me!" she demanded, laughing.
“By the way, do you know how I got out of the group? he tried to talk to me as if it were his own. as a matter of fact. . . I'm interested." I expected her to laugh, but she just stared at me.
"I mean, they're interested in me," I explained. "Okay, first, why do you think that's stupid? And second...Woohoo!" she yelled, hopping in the middle of the road. "Yay!"
"Oh, stop!” I screamed and we both burst out laughing.
'So what happened next?'" she asked, trying to catch her breath. Laughter is gone.
"What do you think? None. What should happen next?"
"So how did you escape? What did he say specifically? ”
"He said he would give me his seat tomorrow."
"Perfect! Call him. So, tomorrow you…”
"Wait." I cut her off.
"But I won't be there tomorrow."
"Why not?"
"Well, I was volunteering at the library at the time," I admit. she looked me in the eye without blinking and her smile soon disappeared.
"Excuse me, do you understand?"
"Do you think I should stay in class?"
"Oh, oh!" she yelled.
"Of course it's Mia. Didn't you study anything this summer? ”
Think about it for a few minutes as you walk. luna took a short breath, stared at me, shook her head, and sighed occasionally. "Oh, Mia."
"Exactly," I said to her as we reached the corner. "You are absolutely right. I don't know why you did that. I think I was just scared. ”
"What are you afraid of? Aiden Colley, that's great, Mia."
I just shrug my shoulders. Because I can't tell her exactly what I'm thinking. And even if she could, I know she wouldn't.
I have been working at the library all week. I love coming back with Professor Solace. And I almost forgot about Aiden Colley and the seat he reserved for me. I forgot everything except those eyes. In this corner of the world I feel comfortable and safe. It's like a break from life. I quickly discovered that I like archiving books and organizing things. Everything has its place, its right way. Here you don't have to worry about who you are or whether you are right. nobody cares about me, not even me.
"It's very hard to find you, you know?" suddenly someone said right next to me. I turn around I can't believe it. It's him, Aiden. And his eyes were looking at me. He leans against the bookshelf and smiles. I had no idea how tall he was when we sat together, and I had to be in the living room that day.
Crazy to understand a lot. To realize how attractive he is in my presence. We are so close and hidden in this quiet hallway. Unique in the world. But let's take a small step Because he's like a magnet and I can't help but get close to him.
"Were you trying to find me?" I asked.
"Well, I reserved a seat for you and people started giving me weird looks." He smiled again. And then he showed me that little crooked smile.
“ I thought you weren't coming back." He looked around the library, then at the stack of books on my lap. "Do you think I was right?”
"I didn't think you were serious." His heart began to pound as he felt his grip on the book loosen. "Why don't people think I'm serious?" he asked, laughing. I think it's probably because of your looks. Maybe it's because you always have such a cute smile on your face. Maybe people don't want to take you seriously if you really mean it. Then you are not just a number 12. Or maybe it's just me.
"I don't know," I say instead.
"Well, it was me."
And we just stand there and stare at each other. Finally, he turned to me questioningly and said,
"Do you hate me or what?"
"No," I said to him immediately.
"I mean, no, no. I mean, I don't like you."
"OK. I think so," he says with a laugh. "Now that's all settled. I was wondering if I should do something one day?"
"What do you like?" I ask.
"What do you like?" he repeats. He had that smile again.
"Oh, I don't know. I was going to knock down some ATMs, destroy them, steal my ID, and then go to the border." he laughs. "Or, I'm going to watch a movie. Maybe even have a meal at a restaurant.” I can't help but smile.
"Is that okay?" he asks. "I don't know," I told him. "can be."
He's taking me more seriously now.
"Eh, do you have a boyfriend?"
"no."
We just stand there and say nothing.
"Okay," he finally said, taking a deep breath.
As he walks away, I pray to God I wish I had just said yes. I go out into the hallway to see if I can still make it in time. But just as she was about to walk out the door, I saw ella standing on one of the shelves, vaguely touching the back of the silicone. From the book she goes back and forth between me and aiden. I will see her this time. she pretended not to see me, took out a book and started playing pages at random.
