Laura’s body froze at the chilling and shivering voice of the man. She held her breath instinctively as her eyes dilated in the ensuing tension.
“Chill out, Doctor.” Laura swallowed the lump in her throat when Adam finally pulled himself away from her and freed her hands. “Your body’s trembling.” Adam chuckled, prompting Laura to stand on her feet. He’s not intending to get checked up at all! He wanted to see her suffocate around him!
Adam raised his gaze at her, “I won’t do anything wrong, okay?” he spread his arms to convince her, but the smug face never left. “At least for now.” Adam smirked.
“What… What do you want me to do, then?” trying hard to keep her voice straight, Laura asked. With those simple words, a lot of courage was spent just on uttering them.
“Check up on me? What else, then—” Adam cut his words short when a brilliant idea suddenly came struck in his mind. He lingered his gazes on the doctor for a second, then spoke in a playful manner, “Doctor, why don’t we make a deal?” Adam crossed his legs and leaned forward to her direction as he leaned his chin on his hand.
“If you manage to know my illness, then I’ll set you free. How does that sound to you?” Laura’s eyes widened at his remarks. Is he serious?! But when the mafia boss saw the brightened face of the woman, he instantly followed up with another statement, crashing the seemingly hope she caught.
“And if you don’t, then you’ll be with me…” Adam stood up on his feet and narrowed the gap between them. “Forever… until the end of time.” That was the last thing the mafia boss muttered before leaving the woman. His intention to get checked up on by her was instantly moved by tomorrow! At the same time, Laura’s quest to find the man’s illness will also commence.
Laura released the breath that had been stuck in her lungs the moment the door snapped a loud thud. With her knees getting jelly, she was thrown onto the couch to sit.
“Illness…” she murmured under her teeth. “He’s sick?” a frown was shown on her face. If that’s so, then she can take advantage of his sickness! She will leave this place once he gets weak! She will never ever treat him again once it comes!
“I just need to endure…” she let out a long sigh before deciding to stand up to leave the office. She headed straight to her room, despite being called by Drake, the same bulky tower man who brought her to his boss’ office, to have dinner.
But Laura ignored him and ran the distance into her room, then locked it once she got in. She would never eat with those people! She would rather be perceived as a loner than eat with them! However, time is acting too fast. Laura just found herself sleeping soundly on the soft bed without eating—since lunch! She slept empty stomach.
As the new day came, Laura was once again called in the same office. She thought that her duty as a doctor would now start, but she was left in daze instead when she heard what the consigliere have said. Yes, the consigliere, the right-hand of the boss!
“Come with me. You shall start your duty inside this manor. Grab this rag, as well as the mop, and begin in this area.”
Laura stared in disbelief at the consigliere. Did she just hear him right?! She’s… she’s going to clean this… this entire place?! The office is already spacious and wide itself, but the entire manor?! Can she even make it?!
Noticing the look on her face, Consigliere Wilson was prompted to say more.
“You haven’t seen any maids here, have you?” a subtle threat was hinted in his voice. Thus, Laura was coerced to brush off the face she was having. She shouldn’t just do that to anyone! Especially to this right-hand man.
“Then, proceed.” When Laura was restrained to express, the consigliere was prompted to leave her with the mop and rag.
Laura stared at those two on the sparkling marble floor. He’s telling her to clean this place?! When it’s already shining with no ounce of dust spotted?! Are they kidding her?!
“s**t! I wasn’t sold for this!” Laura complained like a kid having tantrums. In the end, she heaved a sigh and picked the handle of the mop. She has no other choice after all. “But I guess this will do for now…” what can she do, anyway? Besides, this is way better for her than… than witnessing what these people do.
Again, she just needs to bear, until the boss weakens from his illness, until this organization gradually falls. Perhaps she’s taking her imaginations too far?
From the fifth floor, a man with disheveled hair was found sightseeing the view below. The look in his face suggests that he’s enjoying the sight. A scenery where a woman is having her sweat spill in the chore she’s doing.
“Oh~ I thought she would be complaining.” He spoke as his eyes never left the woman who was now wiping the sweat on her temple with her arms. Probably noticing his serene intent gaze on her, Laura was prompted to look into his direction.
Adam couldn’t really identify what face she was making because of the distance, but seeing her face alone awakened his interest in him.
“Oh dear, Laura~ have you realized you’re a pet now?” he said, although aware of how his words wouldn’t reach the woman. Laura just stared at him, locking their gazes at each other as Adam kept on saying words that she couldn’t hear.
“Let’s jump to the next one once you’ve completed your duty successfully, ‘kay?” though, they weren’t conversing physically as Adam appeared to have just only talked to himself. However, their eyes spoke for them.
As soon as Adam muttered those words, Laura finally took her gazes off of him, as if indirectly indicating that she was not going to like what her next duty was, synchronizing with him despite not hearing anything from him.
