During the honeymoon, Robert was hell-bent on figuring out who the mystery man in his wife's heart was, but she was tighter-lipped than a clam. No matter how much he pushed, she wouldn't spill the beans; she straight-up refused to talk.
When they got back, their first pitstop was Alice's new digs—the one her hubby picked out for her. Living a bit away from the city wasn't an issue for her, but when Robert dropped the bomb that she couldn't leave unless he gave the green light, Alice put her foot down. No way was she staying cooped up just 'cause he said so.
"You're my wife! And if you thought this marriage was gonna be a fairytale just 'cause you said so, you're dead wrong, Alice Taylor! This is where your nightmare begins. You wanted me as your hubby, well, now you got me. Let's see how you handle all this."
She dialed up her folks to gripe about her husband's treatment, calling it straight-up a***e, but they offered zero support.
It wasn't the dream she'd envisioned; nothing played out the way she'd thought.
"You're hitched now, Alice," her mom said. "You're a grown woman. Gotta learn to deal with the mess that comes with marriage. It ain't gonna be all sunshine and rainbows, but you're an adult. Don't forget you're a couple, and he's older. Just take his advice, let him steer the ship. Listen to Robert—he's your hubby now, and you're his wife." That was their advice, brushing off the situation.
They treated it like run-of-the-mill marital drama, not a big deal. They figured their girl was just blowing things out of proportion.
In that giant house, there were three staff members at her service, but they got strict orders from Robert to keep their distance.
"Robert, can't we do this differently, please?"
"What other way? You think there's another way? You chose to marry me! Now you gotta face the music! No more powerhouse Alice Taylor. Now you're Alice, Mrs. Robert Graham. Got it? I'm the boss now, and we do things my way. Get used to it or suffer the consequences." The bossy husband laid down the law. It was submit or struggle. Robert wasn't backing down.
"You don't even give us a shot at getting along!" she yelled as he strutted off. "You're not even trying to make this right, Robert!"
With a heavy heart, Alice saw that Robert was still giving her the cold shoulder, blaming her for a marriage neither of them wanted. She was at a loss for what to do, but she sure as hell didn't wanna live like this.
He left her stranded in that house, just walking away without saying a word.
Weeks crawled by, and Alice was stuck in that solitude, surrounded by unfriendly, pale walls. As the weeks passed, she realized she was pregnant.
She shared the news with her hubby, but he shrugged it off.
The nausea, the morning sickness—everything was new and sudden for the young woman and her inexperienced bod, trying to get used to the changes coming her way.
Throughout the pregnancy, she was confined to home. No regular hospital visits for her. The doc would swing by for check-ups 'cause Robert wasn't having it any other way. It seemed like Alice's words meant squat to anyone.
She was left alone there, like nobody cared.
When she couldn't even see her own feet 'cause her belly was so darn huge, her only company was her baby. The staff steered clear during those months she was locked up, and she only ventured into the garden to take a stroll, admire the flowers, breathe some fresh air, and stretch her legs a bit.
When Alice couldn't remember the sound of her own voice or how to start a convo, she started talking to her belly, to her baby. She'd stroke it with her hands, slathering a thin layer of cream on her swollen belly, and talk to it. She'd sing to it, share stories about her childhood, or reminisce about college with Jared—the most beautiful time of her life. The man she still loved, despite not seeing him for months, despite being hitched and preggers by her husband.
A few weeks before popping out the kiddo, and after being ghosted by her hubby all that time, he showed up at the house one early morning, no heads up, no warning.
He swung the door to her room wide open, and when he flicked on the lights, there she was—this woman, just waking up and blinking her eyes.
"Robert?" "Who else would it be?" She couldn't wrap her head around why he was there. She hadn't heard a peep from him in months. But Robert couldn't tear his eyes away from her massive belly. It was the first time he'd laid eyes on her in ages, and he never figured the pregnancy had come this far, that Alice would be looking like that.
"Alice, but... you're gigantic." He plopped on the bed, trying to reach out and touch her, but she wasn't having it. "I just wanna feel your belly." He climbed onto the bed, eyeballing her massive breasts peeking through that see-through fabric. His jaw practically hit the floor, and he checked out her bare legs, feeling the desire building up in him, causing his manhood to perk up real quick.
How the heck could he desire a pregnant woman he hadn't seen in months?
"And I don't want you to." Alice caught the desire in her hubby's eyes. She tried to grab the sheets to cover herself, but Robert shut that down. "You think you can ditch us and then stroll back like nothing happened?" She called him out.
She wasn't letting him lay a finger on her.
"Yes, of course I can. I show up after all these months, and this is how you greet me? You should be thrilled I bothered to visit. Drop that robe already and let me check out the changes in your bod. Your boobs are looking great. Let your hubby get a peek and brighten up a bit. Show a little happiness."
"Happiness?" She laughed sarcastically. "Do I have to be thrilled to see you? And don't think I'm stripping down. I'm exhausted; let me rest."
"You should be thrilled to see the baby daddy, your hubby! It's supposed to make you happy! Let me see your damn body already!" If she refused, he'd get mad, 'cause he didn't take rejection well. He didn't like that she wanted to boss him around, tell him what to do. He couldn't stand her arguing back or trying to go against him in any way.
He hated that Alice acted all high and mighty, thinking she was better than him.
"Well, it doesn't make me happy! Not even a little! I don't like seeing you after the way you've treated me since we met. Plus, I'm not your type either. Get lost! I'd rather be alone than with you! And I won't let you lay a finger on me!"
"I'm your hubby!"
Alice bounced out of bed to get away from him, but Robert was quicker than a cat. He grabbed her in his arms, being careful not to bump into her belly, and started yanking off her PJs until she was in the buff, and the first thing his hands landed on were Alice's eye-catching, massive breasts.
They'd really grown, her weight had shot up, and those boobs were no exception. Their size got Robert's mouth watering, along with some less-than-innocent thoughts that popped into his head.
"Let me go! I don't want you touching me! Don't touch me, Robert! I don't want to! You have no right!"
He turned her around, and his hand claimed her private area.
"Alice," he whispered in her ear, his voice getting all husky with desire, and touching her was turning up the heat. "It's been months since I touched you. You gonna say you don't want it?" One hand played with her breast, while his fingers did their thing down there, and he planted kisses on her neck. Alice just squeezed her eyes shut, wishing more than anything for him to scram, to stop touching her, 'cause she never wanted it, and today was no different.
Robert brought that hand to his mouth, wet his fingers, and slid them back down there. She squirmed uncomfortably, but he didn't let go.
After doing his thing, he took her to the bed, and that's where he unveiled his manhood, spread her legs, and admired her n***d bod—her boobs, her flushed face, and those wide hips.
Alice shut her eyes, focusing on one thing—picturing Jared's face, digging up memories with him while Robert satisfied himself with her body.
Alice still didn't know what an o****m was, but Robert sure seemed to enjoy himself when he took her body, despite saying he despised her or wasn't into her curves or her weight.
He took a deep breath, then cupped her face. Lying there on the bed, he stuck a finger in his mouth, wet it, and ran it over her lips. He didn't like her gaze and how still she stayed whenever he had his way with her—lifeless, without warmth, without any allure.
"Well, there are women who were thrilled to see me every time I walked into their rooms or their beds. Whether you're happy or not, I couldn't care less. I dropped by out of politeness, not 'cause I really wanted to catch a glimpse of you. I'll be back when my kid pops out." He released her face and tossed the sheet over her exposed bod—didn't wanna lay eyes on her any longer. He got what he wanted, even if desire turned its back on her. "You might look good on the surface, but deep down, you're bland, no charm or sensuality, and to top it off, you're frigid, your body's like an ice cube that can't warm me up, even with all that fat. Alice, you're not a good woman." After dropping those harsh words on his missus, he hit the road. This was their reunion after months of not seeing each other, but Alice felt a weight lifted 'cause she'd rather be flying solo than stuck with her hubby, Robert Graham. She hated that he thought he owned her body, and she felt dirty every time he got his way with her.
She suffered at first because he would leave her there, but then she only thanked that he wasn't there. She was now glad for his absence and didn't feel bad for being the abandoned wife, quite the opposite.
That night, after the tiff and the not-so-gentle encounter with Robert despite being heavily pregnant, Alice couldn't catch a wink. Whether it was the adrenaline from the argument or the rough handling she endured, she felt on edge, not to mention dead tired. Her belly was restless, and her back was screaming in pain.
She paced around, desperate for some relief. The hours ticked by, and morning rolled in. When Alice couldn't bear the pain any longer, she asked one of the staff to ring up the doc. Something wasn't right, and she feared for her baby's health. Her belly felt off, and she didn't want anything going south.
When the doc showed up and checked her out, he knew it wasn't time for the baby yet, but something was off.
Something was wonky.
He kept an eye on her, and then the alarm bells rang when Alice Taylor caught a sudden and sky-high fever, landing her in need of a trip to the hospital.
Robert Graham got word that his wifey was checked into the main hospital, but he couldn't care less. His sisters swung by to check on Alice and her situation, only to get blindsided by the news that she was going through an early labor with a cesarean section, when a regular delivery was on the cards from the get-go.
