Natalie paced back and forth across the living room, clutching her head as if trying to hold herself together. Her heart felt like it was shattering into a thousand pieces, each breath coming out more difficult than the last.
Unable to contain the pain any longer, she let out a scream, tugging at her hair before collapsing to the floor in tears.
“Why is this happening?” she cried. “Why is she back? Why?”
A soft knock on the door interrupted her anguish.
With great effort, Natalie pushed herself up and opened the door.
Daisy stood there, her eyes filled with concern.
“Daisy,” Natalie sobbed, throwing herself into her arms.
Daisy hugged her tightly. “What’s wrong, Nat? You called and said my brother’s first love is back?”
Natalie pulled away, tears streaming down her face as she nodded. “Yes, Daisy. She’s back. She just appeared out of nowhere, right at our doorstep.”
Daisy’s disbelief flared instantly. “That’s unbelievable. And my brother listened to her?” she exclaimed. “We need to confront him. That woman cannot be allowed back into his life. She doesn’t deserve to be there.”
Natalie sniffed and nodded frantically. “Please, Daisy, you have to help me. You remember how things were in the past. With her back, Leo won’t give me… even his stupid minute!”
Daisy placed her hands on Natalie’s shoulders, her voice firm. “Don’t worry, Sis. I won’t let that b***h succeed. She can’t just walk back into my brother’s life. We’ll send her back to where she belongs.”
Natalie nodded, though the unease in her heart did not fade.
She and Leonidas had grown up side by side, and everyone in their circle knew she had loved him since childhood.
They also knew Leonidas had never truly moved on from his first love, the girl he had been forced to leave behind.
Their marriage had only worked because it was imposed by their parents, a union built on obligation rather than love.
For three years, Natalie had hoped her efforts would eventually win his heart, but it never happened. Worse still, she could not even give him a child, no matter how much she wanted to.
And now, that first love had returned, bringing with her a son and another child on the way.
He had lied to her.
That trip two months ago was not just business. He had crossed paths with her, and he probably could not stop himself.
Natalie swallowed hard, anger tightening her chest.
‘No. I won’t let this happen. Leo is mine. He’s my husband, till death do us part.”
Meanwhile, Alexa looked around the house Leonidas had brought them to.
There were sofas, a flat-screen TV, and so many things she hadn’t had access to in a long time.
“Mom, are we really staying here?” Nidas asked, his eyes wide with wonder as he took it all in.
Leonidas kept glancing between the two of them, still clearly perplexed by the sudden turn of events.
Alexa looked up at him. “Are we really staying here?”
He held her gaze for a long moment before nodding. “This is one of my properties. You can use it for now, until I figure things out.”
Alexa’s face softened, and she looked down at her son. “Did you hear that, Nidas? We’ll be staying here for a while.”
Nidas’ eyes widened in disbelief, and he spun around slowly, taking in the room again.
“Nidas?” Leonidas repeated, glancing at the boy and then at Alexa. “That… sounds like you gave him my name.”
Alexa blinked and nodded, a shy smile tugging at her lips. “You wanted that, didn’t you? I thought… I should grant it.”
Leonidas took a slow breath and nodded again. “I… honestly don’t know what to do right now, Alexa,” he admitted. “I’ll leave you two for a bit while I think things over.”
Alexa said nothing.
“I’ll… make sure someone takes care of your needs later,” he added.
As he turned to leave, Alexa quickly reached out and held his hand, stopping him.
He raised an eyebrow. “Is there something else?”
Alexa let out a trembling breath, her eyes wide and pleading. “Can you please not tell your family? Especially your grandfather that I’m here?”
Leonidas turned fully to face her, a frown forming. “Why? Did he… do something to you?” Then he let out a short, bitter laugh. “Or are you scared because you promised you wouldn’t come back?”
Alexa furrowed her brows, confused. “What? I… I’m not sure I know what you mean, but if he finds out I’m back, he’ll definitely make things impossible for us. He’ll send us away.”
Leonidas studied her for a moment, noticing the fear in her eyes, then nodded. “Right. Later then.”
She let go of his hand, and he walked away.
Once the door slammed shut, Nidas grabbed her hand tightly. “Mom, do you think Dad will accept us?”
Alexa turned to him and smiled gently. “Of course he will. He’s just confused right now. But your dad… he’s a good man. He just needs some time.”
Driving to his office in silence, Leonidas’ phone vibrated against the console. Seeing the name Elliot Harris, he answered immediately.
“Yes?” he said, his voice clipped.
“Leo,” Elliot’s voice came through, tense. “I just received a strand of hair to test… sent by one of your bodyguards. What’s going on?”
Leonidas ran a hand over his face, rubbing his temple. “Just do it, Elliot,” he said, voice heavy with exhaustion.
“This is going to take more than a minute…”
“f**k, I know that, Elliot!” Leonidas snapped, gripping the steering wheel tighter. “Just finish it before the end of the day and meet me at Empire.”
He ended the call, letting out a long, frustrated breath.
