Chapter 11: Tell Me The Truth

1900 Words
*Piper’s POV* “I still don’t think this is a good idea.” Jaxon spoke as we waited for Nikko to bring something up that Jaxon requested. “I’ll be the judge of that.” I responded as I sat on the couch with my arms folded across my chest. “I think we should wait a little longer.” I could sense he was still apprehensive about the thought of sharing everything he had with me. “You say you’re the one I should trust right?” I asked. “Yes.” He answered. “Then prove it Jaxon. If you want to get anywhere with me Jaxon you need to prove yourself and tell me the truth.” I felt like it was a perfectly good reason. If the truth was really on his side then this was an advantage to him. He nodded in response. “You’re absolutely right.” He finally agreed with me. “I’m glad we can finally agree on something then.” I responded. There was a knock on the room door. Jaxon went and answered it. I watched as he stepped into the hall. Clearly he was talking with Nikko for a moment. I attempted to listen in but I couldn’t pick up anything other than mumbling. A few minutes later Jaxon returned to the room with a file in his hand. “Everything is right here. Are you sure you’re ready for this? Because this is the last chance to change your mind.” “Yes.” I was determined to learn what he knew. If it was really as life changing as he claimed I deserved to know. No matter what it was, I needed the truth. Especially if I was involved. I could feel in my gut though whatever this was about was going to change the course of things. I just didn’t know how yet. He came over to the couch and sat down. “Promise you’ll go into this with an open mind?” Jaxon asked with a serious look on his face. “Yes, I promise.” I responded as I rolled my eyes. I noticed Jaxon take a deep breath and let it out. He opened the file so he was the only one who could see it. He looked through a few papers. I could tell he was trying to figure out where exactly he was going to start with this. Finally he settled on a paper and pulled it out. “We’ll start on the parents thing.” He spoke as he passed the paper over. It was an official birth document. A document with my name on it. But the last name wasn’t familiar. Honestly I didn’t even think I had one. I was always just referred to as Piper. But there could be multiple Pipers. “How do I know this is mine?” I asked. “I’ll get into that in a minute.” He answered. “But if you look it over you can see the Piper on that paper belongs to the Green Lake pack. A pack that was the closest neighbor to Moon Stone. A pack that no longer exists.” “Okay, and?” I still looked over the paper in my hand. “That doesn’t mean Moon Stone did anything. For all you know they could’ve taken in the rest of the Green Lake pack and that’s why I’m with them.” He let out a low sigh. “I wish it were that easy Piper.” He pulled out two more papers. These ones were death certificates. Vera and Edwin Williams. I felt a strange pang inside of me as I read the names. I felt a connection to these two names. Were these my parents? “Is this-” I started but Jaxon cut me off. “You parents Piper. They put up a fight when you were taken. Because of that they ended up dead.” He explained. “How do you know this?” I asked as I handed the papers back to him. “And how do I know that’s even real?” “It may have been printed off but these documents have the seal from the higher ups.” He pointed to the symbol on all of the papers. “How do you know it has anything to do with Moon Stone still?” I questioned. “All this proves is my parents are dead and that’s why I can’t remember them.” He opened the folder again and searched through the papers once again. He found one he was looking for and pulled it out. He handed it over to me and I looked it over. I noticed right away that this was my documentation for Moon Stone. It held a number that was assigned to me at birth, the same number that matched the birth record. I almost thought for a moment maybe he faked it. However the official approval symbol of Moon Stone was on here. It was a symbol that was sacred and no one else knew it. There would be no way. This was something that was real. How he got it I don’t know, but this symbol was too unique to fake. I looked over the paper more in depth. I noticed one word that caught my attention. Next to parent status the word contracted was crossed out and replaced with murder. This sent chills down my spine. This paper also had Alpha Bradley’s signature at the bottom as the one overseeing the deal. “So I was taken then?” My voice was slightly shaky. “Yes.” Jaxon responded calmly. “Why?” I asked as I tried to process all the thoughts and emotions going through my mind. I could feel my breathing starting to get heavier as it was all becoming too much. Jaxon placed a hand on my back and rubbed up and down. His touch seemed to help calm me down almost instantly. For once I was grateful for him. His calming effect was going to help me be able to really process all of this. “Moon Stone used to be a weak pack. However they figured out a way to get stronger and climb their way to the top. They go to packs with strong blood lines and offer deals for pups. If a deal can’t be reached they come back once they know the pup has been born. Then they kill their parents and take them.” Jaxon explained. “How do you know Matteo has anything to do with this? The youngest in the pack is only about five years old.” I referred to Emi. My heart ached at the thought that maybe she had been ripped away from her parents. She had to have been, I never remembered seeing her mother pregnant. Jaxon pulled out another paper and handed it to me. It was documentation for a pup that would be due soon. His name was signed as the one who was handling it. He was set to become the alpha after all and had taken on more duties that his father usually had. This must be one of them. “This is why you wanted to come in and kill everyone, isn't it?” I asked as I handed all the papers back to Jaxon. “Yes. Part of it.” He answered. “What’s the other part?” My eyes looked into his. “We’ll save that for another day. One big thing at a time.” His voice was soothing as he helped keep me calm. “I want to let you process all of this first and then I’ll tell you more.” I nodded in response. My mind had already been so mixed up before. Now it was even worse. The one I thought I could trust had been proven to be part of something dark. And to think he had the audacity to say I was keeping secrets. He was keeping something major from me and I was set to be the luna alongside him. My eyes went a little wide at the thought. “So why me as the luna? Why?” “I don’t know yet.” Jaxon answered. “I think it’s because of how strong you are though. You seem to be the best for the job and your mind set is that of a luna. But I feel like there has to be more to it. There has to be something special about you that he wants.” “I think I’d like to take a few days to process this all.” My voice was quiet as the words left my lips. “I understand.” Jaxon placed a kiss on my forehead. He then proceeded to get up and head for the door. It was beginning to get late and this was around the time he would leave so I could sleep. “Let me know if you need anything okay?” I bit my lip. “Jaxon.” I called out his name. He turned around to face me. “Yes?” “Stay here with me tonight please.” I could tell he didn’t expect my request. I didn’t really expect it myself but I wanted him here to help keep me calm. “Please. Nothing s****l, I just want you here.” Jaxon nodded. “Of course.” I changed into comfortable clothes for bed. Jaxon stripped down and put on a pair of gym shorts. We got into the red silk sheets together. My back was to him but that didn’t stop him from cuddling up close to me. He wrapped an arm around my waist to hold me close. I didn’t mind, tonight I knew I truly needed this and not because of the mate bond. It seemed to become clearer to me as I laid in the bed. Jaxon wanted to protect me and open my eyes. I could sense he wasn’t doing this to be malicious. He wanted me to understand his issues with Moon Stone. He had been hesitant not because he wanted to keep it secret, but because I played a part in it that I didn’t even realize.  As for Matteo I was beginning to not even recognize the person I thought I knew. Since I had left he had proved there was a darker side of him. With the conversation through our mind link and then this information, I could feel myself begin to pull away even more. He wasn’t who I thought he was. I was set to be a luna, I knew that. But this raised new questions. The one who was supposed to be my enemy was the one who was showing me the truth. Had I been set to be the luna to the real enemy all along?
