*Piper’s POV*
Dee and I had returned back from training by lunch time. I made my way up to the room as I wanted to change before I ate anything. Jaxon was already in the room when I stepped inside. I noticed right away the curious look on his face as he studied me.
“What?” I asked as I approached him.
“I heard about your training.” He responded.
“Okay, and? So I can fight back, what’s the big deal?” I questioned.
Dee made it clear that my strength had something to do with my eyes and the power to pick up on other’s energy. I was curious about it myself but I didn’t think it was anything to make a big deal out of. Dee was going back to do some research on the matter so eventually we would find out the truth about me.
“Benjamin has always been one of the strongest fighters, he’s never been taken down that easily.” Jaxon informed me. “He even puts up a hell of a good fight with me.”
“So what’s your point?” If he was going to hold me up with conversation then I might as well get dressed while we talk.
I walked over to the closet and left the door open so I could hear him. I stripped off the clothing I had worn for training and slipped into a tank top and jeans. I picked out black jacket and slipped on a pair of shoes.
“My point is, we haven’t been marked very long and you already have this much power.” He spoke loud enough I could hear him. “Maybe we should embrace it and see what else you can do.”
I walked out of the walk-in closet and shut the door to it. “Okay. What exactly do you mean by embracing it?”
“After lunch I want to take you around the pack and practice picking up on their energies. It’ll be like a little exercise for your gift.” He suggested.
“Okay.” I nodded in agreement. “How was your meeting with Nikko?”
We could get back on the topic of me later. I wanted to know the details of what they discussed. I’ve proven I’m not going to be that luna who just sits on her ass and pops out pups for the pack. I wanted to be involved. Not only because I wanted to help protect Dark Moon but because this also was personal for me.
“Right now, just as you requested, we’re keeping an eye on Moon Stone. Now Nikko isn’t thrilled and neither will the pack but they all will understand that this is a strategic move.” He spoke with confidence as he went over the details. “I have sent a few of our pack members to check in with the other packs to see if they’ve heard anything. Like I told you before, if Moon Stone does anything to threaten us we will move in and this time I will make sure I finish the job I set out to do.”
“Okay.” I let out a low sigh. “I completely understand.”
“Let’s get down to lunch.” He changed the subject off of his meeting.
We headed down to the dining hall. It would just be Jaxon and I sitting down to our meal. Lunch wasn’t something that Jaxon made the pack gather for. Everyone was allowed to come and go as they pleased.
We got into the dining hall and we both grabbed a sandwich to eat. Jaxon held my hand with his free one as he led the way for us to sit down. We made it to the table and began to eat the meal.
“When do you think we should have the commitment ceremony to make you the official luna of the pack? Jaxon asked after swallowing a bite of food.
“I don’t know. What were your thoughts?” I responded.
Truthfully I wanted to do it as soon as possible. Our bond was getting stronger and stronger everyday. I was ready to make things official with him and the pack. With the marking I already knew that there was no going back on my decision and I was okay with that.
I just didn’t know if we had the time to do it. Matteo could act at any time. The pack had to be the priority right now. There would be more than enough time to have the ceremony once everything was handled.
I could tell Jaxon was thinking for a moment but I couldn’t figure out his thoughts. His eyes then looked into mine. “We need time to actually plan but I think the sooner the better. I think the sooner the better for the pack. Once you’re the official luna then you’ll be able to communicate with them all through mind link. We won’t rush it too much though as I want you to actually enjoy your special moment.”
“So what time frame do you think will be best?” I raised a brow.
“Two weeks.” His eyes looked into mine. “I think that’ll give enough time to get everything we need to in while allowing you to continue training.”
“Okay.” I smiled as I began to let my excitement come to surface. “Sounds good to me.”
He reached over and brushed a strand of my hair behind my ear. “I could look at your smile forever. You’re absolutely stunning and I’m one hell of a lucky man to have been mated to you.”
“Oh whatever.” I blushed.
“Well, I hate the idea of cutting this short but we need to get a move on to testing out this energy reading thing.” He spoke as he stood up from the table.
I followed his lead and got up as well. We disposed of any garbage from our lunch and headed outside. Jaxon held my hand tightly as we exited the pack house. Everyone was still working on their tasks they were assigned to or taking a break.
“What exactly is it you want me to do?” I questioned as we looked over the pack members for a moment.
“We’re just going to go on a little stroll.” He began to explain. “Then I’m going to pick random members, no matter what they’re doing, for you to see what energy they’re giving off.”
“Won’t they find that a little strange?” We began to walk hand in hand down the path. “It’s not like the pack knows what I’m able to do. They might be uncomfortable if I just stare at them.”
“They’ll get over it. Besides, we will leave them unbothered and keep our distance.” Clearly he had thought this through.”
“Okay.” I responded.
I had no problem going around and observing the pack. I had spent more than enough time doing so before. This was just different as I could pick up on their energy and emotions. If I got a good understanding of this gift then it could end up being useful when we went up against any enemy or for when Moon Stone showed up.
With this gift of mine we could possibly have an upper hand. If I used it enough soon I would be able to pick up what someone’s true intentions were. In the long run that would be handy to everyone around me. Jaxon was right for wanting me to see what all I could do with this.
“What about Marla?” He motioned to a woman who was working on hanging up some laundry.
I looked over at the woman pointed out and studied her for a moment. I could tell she was focused on something other than the laundry. I got the vibe it was something to deal with her mate and their relationship. Nothing bad of course, just like she was contemplating the next move for them.
“What I’m getting from her is that she wants to move forward with something that involves her mate.” I relayed the information. “I’m not sure exactly what it is or if I’m even right but she’s focused on something.”
“That’s it?” Jaxon’s energy made it clear that he was hoping for more information.
“I can pick up on their energy and vibes, I can’t pick up on what’s going through their minds.” I reminded him. “And even when I can have connections with them I won’t use it to try to hear their private thoughts.”
“I know.” He nodded and led the way to the next person he had picked out. “What about Flynn over there?”
I looked over at the man who was chopping some wood with an axe. I could sense immediately he was angry and frustrated about something. I got the impression that someone he was close to in the pack had pissed him off. I couldn’t piece together the details but whoever did what might want to stay away for a few days.
“He’s furious with someone in the pack.” I spoke as I broke my attention away from Flynn and back to Jaxon.
“Sounds about right.” Jaxon nodded. “He got into it with his friend earlier today. Ended up being a pretty heated argument.”
“About?” I raised a brow as I was curious for more details.
“His friend looked at his mate in a way he didn’t like.” Jaxon explained. “It’s been handled and they’ll be fine in a couple days.”
We continued walking through the pack and he had me read a few more of the pack members. When he was satisfied he led the way back to the pack house. He glanced over at me and studied me for a moment.
“I want you to take the rest of the day to relax and rest up.” He spoke as we ascended the steps.
“Rest up, for what?” I asked.
“Tomorrow.” He stopped at the pack house doors.
“What’s tomorrow?” Needless to say I was confused.
A smirk crossed his lips. “I want to see how strong you are for myself. Tomorrow you’re going to train with me and I won’t be going easy on you.”
