*Jaxon’s POV*
“So we were in the same pack then?” Piper raised a brow as she began to question me.
“Yes.” I nodded. “I remember when they brought you in, I was around five at the time and you were an infant. Bradley talked about how promising you would be when you grew up.”
“And you’re the one who’s supposed to be the pack’s alpha?” She was trying to process the little information I had given her in her mind.
“Yes.” I nodded once again as I confirmed her statement.
“Wait, so are you and Matteo brother’s or something?” Piper was beyond confused at my confession.
“God no.” I quickly responded. “I have no relation to that piece of s**t and his father thankfully.”
“Okay.” This clearly only left her a little more confused. “Explain it out for me please.”
“You know how you have to challenge an alpha and fight them fairly to gain their power?” I asked.
“Yeah.” She nodded.
“Alpha Bradley got his power another way. He wasn’t born into the Alpha bloodline and he wasn’t strong enough to take one on in a fight.” I began to explain. “He was a rogue when he came to Moon Stone. He tried to take on the alpha of his last pack and failed, so he was exiled. He managed to get the Moon Stone alpha at the time to take him in. He remained on his best behavior to gain the trust of pack members. Once he had it he got with the Elders and they made a plan to use Wolfsbane to weaken the rightful alpha. Then once they had him the Elders held him in place so that Bradley could rip out his throat. Because he didn’t do it the right way the Moon Goddess punished him by only giving him limited power. Which is why the kidnappings started for stronger wolves, it gave less chance for an enemy to get to him and kill him. That’s part of why he made such a quick decision about the exchange for you, it meant he didn’t have to fight me.”
She nodded as she took in the information. “Okay, so how do you know that you were supposed to be the alpha of Moon Stone then?”
“The original Moon Stone alpha was my grandfather.” I confessed. “Not only did they kill him but they killed my father as well to make sure the bloodline was dead. What they didn’t count on was that my father was unmated so he got around the pack. He got my mother pregnant and she gave birth some time after Bradley took over.”
“So where’s your mother then?” Piper asked.
“One of the nearby packs attacked when I was about eight.” I sighed. “They had heard about the things Bradley was doing but he ended up killing them off because of his fighters. Unfortunately some of Moon Stone was killed in the battle, including my mother.”
“Jaxon, I’m so sorry.” I could see the sorrow on her face by the information I had just given her.
She was taking all of this information in without any doubt. This is exactly why it was so important that I waited to reveal it all to her. I had proven to her she could trust me and who her real enemy was. If I had revealed it sooner she would be more of a mess and possibly would have fought me on it.
“It’s okay. I’ve moved past it, doesn’t mean she’s not missed but I do my best to make her proud.” I responded.
“So did Bradley find out that you were part of the alpha bloodline?” She raised a brow as she asked.
“Not for a while, it wasn’t until I was about fifteen that he noticed how strong I was getting.” I continued on. “He really started watching me after that but I now realize that is probably only part of the reason he exiled me.”
“What was the other part of the reason?” Piper was getting antsy for more information. I could tell by her demeanor and from the feelings she was giving off.
“You.” My tone was serious. “When I reached the age of twenty, the mating age, you were still fifteen. You were too young to feel the bond and for us to be mated, but that didn’t stop me from being drawn to you and watching over you from a distance. I felt like I needed to keep an eye on you and be ready to intervene at any moment if you were in danger. Bradley had already begun to set you up with Matteo and when Matteo noticed you had my attention he attempted to take me on. I kicked his ass easily, that’s when they decided to look into my background. When they realized I was part of the alpha bloodline that’s when the decision was made to exile me. It was easier to make me seem like I was a rogue than it was to admit what Bradley had done.”
“Did you know about your bloodline then?” Piper asked in response.
“No. Nadine is the one who helped me look into it and access all the records. Bradley didn’t want me to know, because if I returned and decided to challenge him I would take back the role that rightfully belonged to my family.” I answered.
Piper let out a sigh. I could hear a hint of frustration within it. “This still makes no sense on why I’m so damn important to them.”
“Well, I have a theory.” I spoke up. “You are one of the strongest female’s I’ve ever come across, your strength damn near matches mine. Being mated to you Matteo got some of your power. I think that maybe he was using you as a way to get as close as he could to being almost as strong as an actual alpha.”
“So do you think maybe I’m from an alpha line then?” Piper was definitely determined to get to the bottom of this.
“I don’t know.” I honestly had no idea right now. All I knew was the power she possessed was like no other. “Could be an alpha line, but even then usually the daughters from one aren’t as strong as you are. Could possibly be Lycan related but you don’t have anything close to Lycan attributes.”
She stood up and began to pace the room. “It’s really starting to bug me that we have no idea why Matteo wanted me so bad.”
I got up from my chair and walked over to her. “I know, but we’ll figure it out Piper. I promise.”
“When Jaxon?” She was slightly frustrated. “They exiled you and kept you away from me on purpose. Whatever it is about me gave Matteo power, power that he no longer has from our bond being broken.”
I nodded. “I see your point. I’ve taken half of the power he had since you’ve been mated to one another.”
“He’s going to be pissed about it too.” She did know him quite well from the time they spent together.
“Do you think he’s going to try and do anything about it?” I already had suspicions he would but I wanted to get Piper’s input. She knew the enemy well and she was now my partner in all of this.
“I can almost guarantee he’s already plotting something.” She bit her lip nervously. “He tried to mind link when you marked me last night. I didn’t let him get to me but I know he felt the bond between us break just as I did.”
I nodded. Of course that little prick would try to get in the way. I would have been more surprised if he hadn’t mind linked her. He liked getting in the way, to try and stop what was meant to be. Especially if it affected him and well this, this definitely was going to have an impact on Matteo negatively.
Nikko cleared his throat to get to look over at him. “I’m sorry to interrupt you but Dee mind linked with me and thought I should inform you of the plans the pack’s making.”
“Which are?” I c****d a brow.
“They want to plan a celebratory dinner.” Nikko answered. “They haven’t really ever had the chance to celebrate their alpha being mated. They also feel like since most of the fighters have recovered then we should celebrate the victory.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.” There were still a few things that needed to be done. Like releasing the Silver Moon pack member for example.
“Let them have it.” Piper had a soft look on her face as she looked between Nikko and I. “They’ve all been under so much stress because of their worry, if they want to celebrate then let’s allow it. It would be good for the pack.”
I took her words into consideration. She had been the one who led them while I was away. If she felt they needed this then so be it. It’s not like it would really hurt anything. Putting off the more serious plans for a few more hours probably was in the best interest for me anyway. I was still feeling slightly drained from the fight and I could use the night to relax.
“Fine.” I finally spoke. “But if anything at all seems off or we get word about any retaliation the celebration ends immediately.”
Nikko gave a nod. “Understood, I’ll go make the announcement while you finish up here.”
I waited for him to shut the door. I then turned my attention back to Piper. “Tomorrow we have some work to do. We need to let the prisoner go and then I want you training. You haven’t since you’ve gotten here and I don’t want you getting rusty. Especially if Matteo shows up.”
