*Piper’s POV*
Jaxon held my hand tightly as I stood by his side. This morning we had eaten breakfast with the pack and then he had them all meet in here to address any concerns that they had. They all asked very similar questions. They wanted all the details they could get and I understood why.
Jaxon explained why they weren’t able to communicate and when they had moved from the area the priority was getting everyone home. He explained how he tried to reason with Alpha Alec but he refused as he didn’t want Jaxon to come for him next. He spared all the gruesome details of the c*****e he saw.
Once everyone was satisfied with the information he had given they all began to talk amongst themselves. Jaxon cleared his throat to get their attention back to him. There was still one piece of information he wanted to share with the pack.
“I have one last thing to address, Piper and I marked each other last night. She no longer has any ties to Moon Stone.” He announced. “I feel like this was the right decision, especially seeing how everything had been handled when I was gone. We will begin making plans for the ceremony to make her your official luna.”
He waited for a moment to see how they would react to the news. After proving myself while he was away I didn’t feel like anyone would hate the idea. Most of them clapped for the announcement as they were happy that Jaxon was mated. There were of course some of the female members, like Emma, who seemed disappointed but it’s not like they could change it.
“I just wanted to thank you all for giving me the chance.” I figured it was only fitting for me to speak up. “I will do my very best and give my all to you.”
Jaxon placed a soft kiss on my cheek. His touch sent chills of excitement right through me. What I felt for him had only gotten more intense. His touch, his scent, I just couldn’t get enough of it all.
“You’re all dismissed.” He excused the pack and watched them leave the meeting hall.
“Seems like that went pretty well.” I spoke as the room cleared out.
“Yeah, it did.” He nodded in agreement and then looked over at me. “I need you to come into my office.”
“Okay. For what?” I raised a brow.
He thought for a moment before answering. His tone was serious. “I need to let you know everything else Moon Stone has been doing. You’ve proved where you stand and it’s time for you to know exactly what we’re up against.”
I could feel the dread building up inside me. I could already tell I was about to find out some things that I wasn’t going to like. The kidnappings were bad enough. How much worse did this get? How much deeper does it go?
“Come on.” He grabbed my hand again and led the way to his office.
I followed behind him and Nikko walked with us. He opened the office door and we stepped inside. Nikko closed and locked it behind us so we wouldn’t be bugged. Jaxon led the way to one of the chairs in front of his desk for me to take a seat. As I did he went to the other side and sat down.
“Piper, what you're about to find out is going to be surprising and I don’t know exactly how it’ll make you feel.” His hazel eyes gazed into mine. “If it begins to be too much just say the word and we’ll take a break.”
“Okay.” I nodded. “Let’s just get to it please. Tell me everything you know.”
“When I planned the attack it was a surprise to you all, correct?” He was referring to the night he had made the deal to take me with him.
“Yeah. It seemed to have come out of nowhere.” I answered honestly. Things had always been quiet for the Moon Stone pack. Getting attacked was something we never really felt like we had to deal with there.
“I had to do it that way for a reason.” He informed me. “If you had no idea about the kidnappings then you have no idea about the fact there are more wolves to the pack than they claim.”
“What do you mean?” I asked as I furrowed my brows.
“Let me ask you, what exactly did Moon Stone tell you my, well now our pack does?” Jaxon leaned over his desk slightly.
“They told us that Dark Moon was trying to take over more territories. That you guys were going in and slaughtering those who didn’t comply with your demands.” I explained the information Matteo and Alpha Bradley had provided to me. “They said that you in particular Jaxon seemed to get off on the power and control you had. That you didn’t care who got hurt in the process.”
“Of course.” he scoffed in annoyance. “I’m not surprised.”
“So then, what’s this all really been about?” I asked to get him to continue.
“It is indeed about power and control. But it’s Moon Stone that are the ones who are taking the territories from other packs.” Jaxon answered.
“How?” If there’s more wolves then where are they?” It didn’t make sense. I had gotten to know the pack members and their roles so well.
Nikko walks over with a map in his hand. He opens it up and lays it flat on the desk. I proceeded to lean over and study it. There were different territories that were color coded. Dark Moon’s was in black, Silver Moon in yellow, the Evergreen Pack in green and then Moon Stone. It was in red and much bigger than it was shown to the pack.
“How?” My eyes remained glued to the map. I used my finger to draw the perimeter I had been aware of. “This is all that there was supposed to be. They made everyone think you guys were the ones taking it all.”
The four packs listed were the main ones. There were little packs in between all the territories who tried to remain neutral over everything. These were the packs that were being massacred. If they managed to live it was only because they agreed to give up their territory and join the other pack.
“They keep the other fighters out on the edge of the perimeter. They have them in hiding. There have been multiple fights but it seems like it doesn’t make it back to the actual pack.” Jaxon continued on. “The only way we made it through so easily is because we picked a night where Bradley sent the fighters away.”
“Okay, wait a minute.” All of this was new to me. “I was supposed to be the luna and I didn’t even know all of the details. That means there’s innocent pack members in there Jaxon, members who are buying into all this bullshit.”
“You would be correct.” He nodded. “Unfortunately sometimes the innocent end up getting hurt. I can’t worry about them when I have a pack of my own to worry about.”
“So what’s your next plan then?” I questioned him to see where his head was at.
“To plan another attack.” He answered.
While my loyalty was now with Dark Moon I still didn’t feel okay with the idea of innocent pack members being killed. My binds with Matteo were gone but I still felt slightly connected to the Moon Stone pack.
There had to be a better way. A better way to take down the enemies and to maybe even reunite the kidnapped victims with the ones they had been taken away from. That was if they were still living.
Jaxon seemed to have read my thoughts. “Piper, I’ve thought about all the ways that I can do this with only hurting the ones who deserve it. But it’s not possible. The whole pack has to be taken out.”
I looked down as I shifted in the chair. I then looked back into Jaxon’s eyes. “We’ll do it your way and you can prepare, for now. Just give me a chance to maybe see if there’s a better way we can do this. A way we can make people realize that Moon Stone has been the one behind it all.”
Jaxon’s face was intense as he was deep in thought for a moment. “What makes you so sure that you’ll be able to find something?”
“There’s something special about me. Let me see if maybe I can use it to my advantage.” I was confident that maybe whatever it was could help in this situation.
Jaxon stood up and came around the desk. He gently cupped my chin with his hand and made me look up at him. His hazel eyes studied me intensely. It was like he was trying to see if he could figure out what was so different with me. As my mate you would think that maybe he could pick up on something.
“Your heart is so pure.” He finally spoke. “Piper, I’ll give you some time but only because I want to know what’s different about you too. Even now I can’t figure it out, I can feel you have more strength than what’s normal but that’s it.”
“Thank you.” I responded as my eyes remained locked on his.
“But if for any reason they begin to act out, I will not hesitate to act accordingly to make sure our pack remains safe.” I could sense his seriousness.
I nodded in agreement. “That’s fine and I understand. If you need to attack them for whatever reason I won’t stop you.”
He bent down and gave me a gentle kiss on the lips. I could tell he wanted to do more but Nikko was present. He pulled away and sat back at his desk. I could sense something was on his mind.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him with a concerned look.
“We’re mated now. I think it’s time I open up and tell you the truth about myself.” Jaxon confessed.
“You already told me about you being exiled.” As the words left my mouth it dawned on me that he didn’t go into all the details as we were still getting to know each other.
“But I didn’t tell you from where.” He let out sigh. “Piper, Alpha Bradley exiled me from Moon Stone because I was going to be the one to take the alpha position, not Matteo.”
