Chapter 31: Training

*Piper’s POV* We were halfway back to the pack house after releasing the prisoner Jaxon had kept. We had one thing taken care of which I could tell was a relief for Jaxon. However there was still clearly something on his mind. I already knew it had to be about Matteo from the vibe he had given off since finding out Matteo was moving into the alpha position. “Are you going to your office now?” I asked as we walked side by side. “Yeah.” He answered. “I need to think and get this figured out.” “It’ll be okay, you know that right?” I spoke as I grabbed his hand in mine. I could sense he was tense but he began to relax with my touch. The calmer he was the better he would be able to think. That way he could make the best decision possible. “I know.” He glanced up at me and gave me a slight smile of reassurance. “You’re still going to go to training and I’ll brief you on everything once I finish up with Nikko.” “Of course.” I nodded. “I can’t wait!” “Oh really?” He asked with a raised brow. Of course I was looking forward to my training today. It had been weeks since the last time I had a chance to use my fighting skills. It didn’t help that I thought I had been locked up in the room and then I ended up being too busy managing the pack while he was gone. “Yes.” The excitement was clear in my tone. “I’ve been so antsy about it I almost had to challenge you to take me on so I could have some practice.” He was clearly amused by my response. He let go of my hand and wrapped his arm around my waist. He pulled me close against him and kissed the top of my head. I smiled to myself as I couldn’t feel happier right now. “Keep it up and I’ll have you training in other ways.” His tone was low and seductive as he spoke. Clearly he still had enough room in his mind for dirty thoughts. “Shut up.” I warned him but it didn’t stop me from blushing. We made it back to the front steps of the pack house. Everyone was hard at work doing their tasks as Jaxon and I looked around. He then directed his attention back to me. “Go upstairs and change.” He directed. “Dee will be here shortly to take you to train.” “Okay.” I nodded. I turned to go up the steps of the pack house but he grabbed my hand to stop me. He then pulled me against his chest. “Not without a kiss first.” “My bad.” I smirked before placing my lips onto his. He pulled me tightly against him as our lips began to move in sync with each other. His arms wrapped around me tightly to get me as close to him as he could. Since being mated sometimes it felt like we couldn’t get enough of each other. Right now was one of those moments. Nikko cleared his throat which brought us back to reality. “Hate to be a buzzkill but you both have things you’re supposed to be doing.” Nikko spoke as he shifted uncomfortably. “Oh come on Nikko, they’re just enjoying each other’s company.” Dee spoke as she approached the three of us. “Something you wouldn’t know about.” He glared at her. “Last time I checked you weren’t mated to anyone yet either.” Jaxon let out a chuckle and turned his attention back to me. “I do have to get on this and you still need to change. We better get a move on.” “Of course.” I agreed and gave him a peck on the lips. I hurried up the steps and to the room I shared with Jaxon. I changed into a pair of shorts and black sports bra. I laced up my shoes and grabbed a water bottle. I then headed back down to the front entrance of the pack house. Jaxon and Nikko were already gone when I got back. Dee was pacing back and forth as she waited for me. My footsteps caused her to snap her head in my direction. “Ready to go?” She asked. “Absolutely.” I nodded. Dee led the way to the building where all the training took place. I noticed some of the others were heading there as well. Everyone did training so that they could be prepared incase of an attack here at home. The pack was so big though that they all had to take shifts and trade off. She opened the door and we entered inside of the building. She continued leading the way into the main area. The inside was massive with various training equipment like punching bags and floor mats moved out of the way. Everything in here looked like it would help anyone train to take their fighting to the next level. Everyone who had come in for their training gathered in front of the two fighters who had been given the task as instructors. We were all spaced out so that we could practice our moves individually before partnering up. I focused on the trainers as they began demonstrating what they wanted to see today. They had us practice jabs with our fists and kicks. They also showed how to dodge moves that they had just shown us. The training actually was going really well and it was exhilarating to be able to practice. “Any volunteers want to show us what they took from this little lesson?” One of the instructors asked. The room was silent as no one really wanted to volunteer themselves. I could sense everyone in the room was nervous. Both of these guys were massive and they wouldn’t be easy to take down. I looked around for a moment longer to see if anyone would speak up. “I will.” I raised my hand once it was clear no one else wanted to. “Perfect.” The instructor smirked. “Our future luna has decided to take us on.” I walked through the crowd and up to the two instructors. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me as I did so. “Are you sure?” The other instructor asked apprehensively. “Alpha Jaxon will rip your throat out if you hurt her.” I looked over to the one who had spoken. “I’m pretty sure I can handle Jaxon just fine, but thank you for your concern.” I smiled. “Let’s do this then.” The instructor who had called for volunteers gave me his full attention as he got into a fighting stance. He charged at me but I moved out of the way in time. I spun around and gave him a kick to the back. He let out a groan as he turned to face me again. I could tell before he was slightly trying to hold back but it seemed to become clear that was not necessary. He charged me again and I used my strength to keep him from knocking me down. I pushed him back and gave him a punch to the jaw. I could see he was slightly becoming agitated by how strong I clearly was. He tried to charge me for the third time but I dodged him again. As he passed by I grabbed his arm and flipped him onto the ground. I could tell I had taken him by surprise. This wasn’t one of the moves we practiced but I had gotten carried away with the skills I had already learned years ago. He was out of breath as he stood up. “You’re good.” He complimented. “Thank you.” I could’ve done more to the poor guy but I didn’t want to over do it since it had been a few weeks. He looked out at the wide eyed group of pack members. They seemed surprised by how easily he went down for me. He glanced at me one more time and then back to the group of members. “Partner up.” He ordered. As everyone picked a partner I headed straight for Dee. She looked me up and down as I approached. “You’re more than just good. That was damn near impressive.” She spoke as her eyes met my face. “Why was it so impressive?” I raised a brow. I knew the guys wouldn’t be easy to take down but it doesn’t mean they would be impossible. “Because no one has ever been able to knock Benjamin on his ass like that.” She responded. “You just better go easy on me is all.” “Do you think it’s from the strength I got from Jaxon when we marked each other?” I questioned as we got in the stance to practice the moves we learned. “No.” She shook her head and dodged the kick I had attempted. “Your strength you gained from him definitely helped though.” She spoke as she attempted to jab me with her fist but I stopped it. Her eyes looked at her fist held in my hand. “But this, this is all mainly you.” I released her fist. “How are you so sure?” “Because you’re using moves you already knew. It was also clear that you were stronger than normal before you marked each other.” She explained. “So are you saying this is part of one of the things that makes me so special apparently?” I knew I was strong but I always thought it was because I spent my time training a lot at Moon Stone. “I think so.” She nodded. Since being marked the past few days it seemed new things were coming to the surface. My strength apparently and the reading of energies. I still had no idea what any of this meant. All I know is the Moon Goddess clearly gave me these gifts for a reason. I was bound to find out their purpose sooner or later.
