Chapter 13: Why Was I Taken?

1931 Words
*Piper’s POV* Even after a week it was still hard to process all the information Jaxon had given me. As much as I didn’t want to believe it he gave me the proof. The things he showed me were real and Matteo was part of it. Part of me still wanted to hear Matteo confirm it himself. I wanted him to admit that he had lied to me. That the past year of our relationship he had been keeping one of the darkest secrets. He no longer had the right to tell me what was wrong or right. I may be giving into my mate bond but he’s aware of Moon Stone taking children that didn’t belong to them. Our quiet little pack clearly wasn’t as innocent as they had seemed to be. I also wanted him to tell me why I was picked. What the hell was so special about me? I may have been one of the strongest females of Moon Stone but there had to be more to it. I could feel there was more. There’s no way it was just for my strength. There was a knock on the door and then someone entered. It was the older woman who Jaxon had spoken to when we first arrived at the pack house. She had her brown and grey hair pulled back into a bun. Her brown eyes looked between me and the tray that she was carrying. “Alpha Jaxon asked me to bring you up some lunch since he’s busy at the moment.” She smiled as she spoke politely. “Thank you-.” I paused as I tried to think of her name but I couldn’t remember. “I’m sorry, I forgot your name. Being up here in this room for two weeks has seemed to affect my brain and my manners.” She let out a chuckle. “It’s Catherine.” She responded as she set the tray down on the table that was still set up. “Thank you Catherine.” I gave her a small smile. “Is there anything else I can get you while I’m here?” She asked. “No, that will be all.” I answered. She gave a nod. “Very well. Have a good rest of your day.” She turned and headed for the door. It closed tightly behind her, concealing me in this room yet again. I sat down at the table and looked at the meal she had brought up. It was a sandwich made with some lunchmeat and french fries on the side. I began to eat it as I felt like I was starving. As I ate I couldn’t help but reflect on the massive changes in my life and the information I had forced Jaxon into giving me. It was all that I could think about. I was stuck in this damn room and was forced to have my thoughts keep me company. The only time my thoughts seemed to go away was when Jaxon came in here. He only came back when he slept and even then he had taken over the couch as his bed. After that night we laid in bed together I realized it was a mistake. I had used him for the calming effect he had on me and that couldn’t happen. I didn’t want him to think I accepted him just because of the information I had received. So I had to push him away again. I sighed to myself as I got up from the table. I finished my meal and sat down on the couch. My mind was a mess right now. I needed some clarity and I wanted it now. The best thing I could do was reach out to Matteo. I opened myself up to our link. “Matteo.” I called out. I waited for a moment and then he finally answered. “Piper, are you okay? I haven’t heard from you.” I could hear the concern in his voice. However I couldn’t help but wonder if it was really genuine. I had closed off our connection while I tried to figure out what to do. Every time he tried I shut it down and blocked him out. I didn’t want Matteo to be in my head as I tried to process things. He would only make it more complicated than it already was. “I’m fine.” I responded. “But we need to talk.” He hesitated before speaking again through the link. “About what?” “Before we get into that I expect you to tell me the truth, the whole truth Matteo.” I was stern with him. “And if you put me down once I’ll make sure the connection’s blocked indefinitely.” “Okay. I promise, only the truth and I’ll be respectful.” He agreed to my terms. “Where are my parents?” I wanted to know what he knew about me. This was also to test if he really was going to tell me the truth or not. “I don’t know Piper.” I wasn’t surprised by his claim. I had expected him to answer this way. “You’re lying.” My irritation became clear in my voice. “Tell me the truth Matteo. I know you’ve been lying and I swear if you keep it up we’ll be done for good. I don’t care if you marked me, I’ll find a way to do away with it.” “He told you, didn't he?” I knew right away he was referring to Jaxon. “Yes.” I answered honestly. “I know about the kidnappings and I know that I was part of one.” “My father was afraid this would happen.” I could hear him sigh over the link. “We were going to tell you everything once the ceremony to make you the luna of Moon Stone had taken place.” “Why? So I would have no choice to be a part of it too?!” I was beginning to get furious. They were going to trap me into agreeing with what they were doing. “No. Because you would truly understand that it was doing what was best for our pack Piper. I don’t know what he said to you but we’ve only had the purest intentions.” I could tell he was saying whatever to make himself look better. “Your father killed my parents and took me away! How is that the purest of intentions?!” I growled. “Sometimes, things get complicated Piper. I wanted to tell you myself and I wanted to do it soon.” I knew instantly that was a lie. “What’s so f*****g special about me Matteo?! Why was I taken?!” I demanded an answer from him. “I can’t tell you that honestly.” He responded. “Why not?!” My anger was in my voice. I wanted him to know just how unhappy I was with him and his decisions. “Because I don’t even know Piper!” I could tell he seemed to be telling the truth this time by the frustration in his voice. “My father picked you for a reason but he hasn’t said s**t about it. I’ve been trying to figure it out but I’m at a loss.” It had always been Alpha Bradley’s idea to get us together. Thinking back to it he had Matteo and I partnered up for everything he could. That’s why when it was brought up to me to be the luna and Matteo’s mate I accepted. I was already comfortable with him and he flirted with me back and forth so it was easy for me to open myself up to him and let the feelings grow. It now dawned on me that getting us together always been his father’s intention all along. Judging by the information I knew now, Alpha Bradley probably never counted on the fact that I would find my fated mate. And he definitely probably never would have expected that mate to be the alpha who knew the truth. Maybe this is why the Moon Goddess brought Jaxon and I together. So that I didn’t get trapped into a situation I would want no part of. But it still didn’t answer what was special about me. “Why the kidnappings Matteo? Is it just for bloodlines or is there something more than that?” I asked. “I can’t tell you anymore than what you already know, not until I know I can trust you again.” His tone was stern with me to make it clear he wouldn’t be giving away any more information. “Matteo-” I started but he cut me off. “Drop it Piper.” His tone now seemed slightly threatening. “The best advice I can give right now is not to talk to Jaxon any further. Remember where your loyalty lies. Unless you’ve forgotten that already.” He closed the connection right after. I was furious that he wouldn’t give me more information. The throwing in my loyalty didn’t help. All he continued to do was make me feel more and more mixed up. It seemed every time we talked things got worse between the two of us. Our bond felt like it  was being stretched too thin. If I didn’t return home soon then there would be no hope. But did I want to even go back to Moon Stone? Everything had been a damn lie and the person who vowed to love me and protect me was turning more and more into the one I felt I should be running from. Trying to process all my thoughts and this conversation became too much. I was frustrated, angry and upset. I needed to take my mind off things. There was only one way I could do that quickly. I called out for Jaxon through the mind link. I wanted him to come and help either talk me through things or to get my mind off of it. It didn’t matter at this point how he did it. I just wanted to feel calm and in control again, his presence helped me with that whether I liked it or not. Jaxon was cocky and had a mouth on him. He challenged me and I was drawn to it. He knew when to tone it down though. He had been checking in on me and making sure I was taken care of, even if I didn’t want to say a word. He was doing everything a mate was supposed to. Unlike Matteo who had let me be given away. I heard about the bond between fated mates but it was stronger than expected. At this point I could feel that it seemed like it was only growing as the chosen mate bond got weaker and weaker.
