*Piper’s POV*
I took a shower and cleaned up after Jaxon had left. Once I finished I tried to find something to keep myself busy. I was beginning to grow tired of this damn room. It was the only thing I had seen since I arrived. I was bored and I wanted a little more excitement.
I could feel Matteo trying to link with me again. I let out a sigh in my mind. He kept trying to get into my mind after I finished up with Jaxon. I was blocking him out though. I could tell it was frustrating him. I didn’t care though, he was the last person I wanted to talk to.
If I let him in I knew exactly what he would say. He would be pissed that I went all the way with Jaxon. That the bond with my fated mate had taken over and won. He would probably call me names and degrade me again. I didn’t feel like dealing with it right now, especially from him. He had been proven to not be the saint he thought he was.
Was it wrong of me to let Jaxon have his way with me? Probably, but I didn’t care. He was making me feel things I hadn’t felt before. I found myself not hating him. Instead I was more drawn to him. I wanted to know more about him, I wanted to figure out all the reasons that made the moon goddess put us together.
My nose picked up his familiar scent. He was coming closer to the door. It was almost like he must’ve known I was thinking about him. My eyes went to the door handle as I waited for it to turn and for him to come inside.
Finally he did. I could tell he was calmer than when he had left. That partly was my doing. I could feel how angry he was for being taken away from me. So I felt the need and want to mind link and calm him down. As the alpha he needed to be available when there was trouble or something of importance. He needed to focus when he talked with Nikko and it’s not like I was going anywhere anyway.
“What are you thinking about?” Jaxon asked as he came closer to where I was sitting on the couch.
I could feel my desire for him again. I felt excited about seeing him. I wasn’t going to tell him that though. He would get cocky and think he had won me over. Besides, the way he was looking at me I’m sure he was already picking up on it.
I let out a sigh. “I’m bored.”
“So go do something.” He responded.
“How am I supposed to go do something when you keep me prisoner in this room?” I questioned.
“You think I’m keeping you prisoner?” He c****d his eyebrow.
“Well duh. You said you couldn’t trust me and you lock the door every time I’m left alone in here.” There was a hint of frustration in my voice.
I didn’t like being in the same place for too long. I was used to going around and interacting with my pack. I was used to getting my daily training in. I was getting antsy and I wanted to do more than arrange Jaxon’s books into alphabetical order.
An amused smirk appeared on his lips. “Piper, I need to be honest about something. You have not once been locked in here.”
“What do you mean?” I asked as a puzzled look took over my face. “The door clicks every time someone leaves, isn’t that the lock?”
Jaxon chuckled. “No. It just does that, it always has and that’s how I know it’s closed all the way. I haven’t locked the door since I brought you in here.”
“Why didn’t you tell me asshole?” I wasn’t holding back my irritation. He allowed me to sit here and think I couldn’t go anywhere.
His amused smirk remained. “You never asked blue eyes. I also never told you that you were locked in here, I just didn’t tell you it was open either.”
I glared at him as I got up from the couch and closed the gap between us. “Why? Why let me stay stuck in here?”
“Because I was observing you.” He explained as the smirk disappeared and his face was now serious. “I wanted to see if I could trust you after all and I wanted to see exactly what your thoughts about me were. You honestly could have opened that door at any time and walked around.”
“Why would you let it be that easy for me then?” I was irritated to find out it wasn’t locked but I was intrigued to find out why it wasn’t in the first place.
“Because I had a feeling that you would take our deal seriously and that if you did realize it was open you would still stick around.” He answered as his hazel eyes looked into my blue orbs. “However I did have some of the pack members on standby in case you had decided to run off.”
His reasoning was good, I’ll give him that. It wasn’t enough to fight off my irritation about the situation. “Well good job, letting me think I’m being held captive and making me miserable the past two weeks!” I sneered as I let my emotions take over.
“You’re the one who assumed Piper.” He responded nonchalantly. “I understand though, you were under the impression that I was the bad guy here. But no matter what you think you’re my mate, not my prisoner therefore you won’t be treated like one.”
I let out a low growl. “You’re still an ass for not saying anything.”
I attempted to walk past him as I was done with this conversation. His hand grabbed onto my arm and he pulled me back. He spun me around and held me against his chest. I could feel the irritation melt away as he was calming me down.
He took my chin in between his fingers and forced me to look up at him. I could see the desire building in his eyes. I could also sense that he was feeling a little bit of regret. Not for what he did exactly, but because I stated that I had been miserable in here.
His lips came closer and closer, until finally they crashed on to mine. He was gentle as our lips moved in sync with each other. This kiss wasn’t fueled by his hunger and desire to get me back into bed. This was softer and sweeter. It was like his way of giving me an apology.
He broke the kiss and his eyes looked into mine. “I didn’t mean for you to be miserable. I just needed to see exactly what I was working with. Let me make it up to you.”
“How?” I asked as we kept eye contact.
“You need a run, I can tell. You’ve been inside bumming around for too long. Let me take you on a run and we can eat dinner after.” He suggested.
“We’ll eat somewhere that isn’t in here right?” I raised a brow.
The amused smirk returned to his lips as he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. “Are you sure? We could sit in here and talk about all the other ways for you to arrange my books.”
I gave him a playful slap to the chest. “Keep me in here any longer and I’ll arrange your books right out of the window.” I threatened.
“Fine.” He chuckled. “You did an amazing job though. That bookshelf has never looked that good.”
I rolled my eyes in response.
Jaxon grabbed my hand and led me out of the room. We walked down the hallway and down some stairs. His grip on my hand remained as he led me to a back door of the pack house. We went outside and I looked around at the trees and forest that concealed us.
I took a deep breath in and let it out. It was nice to breathe in the fresh air. It had felt like ages since I had been outside. It was only two weeks but still. I needed this right now.
“Are you ready?” Jaxon asked as he began to strip down.
“Yeah.” I nodded.
I followed his lead and stripped off my clothing. Once we were both undressed we shifted into our wolf forms. My fur was as dark as my hair, which was pretty similar to Jaxon’s. He was slightly larger than me but that was to be expected as he was a male. I noticed his hazel eyes looked me over. This was the first time we had seen each other in our wolf forms.
“Let’s see if you can keep up.” He spoke in an amused tone through our mind link.
“I’m sure I won’t have any trouble.” I scoffed.
Without warning he darted off in the direction opposite of me. I followed behind and caught up to the point I was beside him. He glanced over at me as we ran together. I could tell he was impressed by my speed.
He picked up the pace and so did I. It seemed like maybe he was trying to see exactly how well I had been trained on my abilities. Even with the quickened speed it was a breeze to keep up with him. All my training of running and fighting paid off for me, I was quicker than most females and I was stronger.
We dodged any tree that got in our way and practically leaped over the rocks on the path as we made laps around the pack perimeter. It felt exhilarating to be honest. It was amazing to get out and actually be able to run. After feeling like I had been stuck in the room for two weeks I needed this.
“You’re impressive.” Jaxon complimented me as we continued running together.
“You’re not so bad yourself.” I responded.
“Hungry yet?” He glanced at me and then straight ahead again.
“I could eat.” The run had really worked up quite the appetite for me.
“One more lap, then we’ll go back.” He spoke as he continued on the path we had been following.
“Okay.” I agreed.
We took our last lap around the perimeter for Dark Moon. It would’ve been easy to try to run away to be honest. Maybe this had been another test by him. The thing was though, I didn’t want to get away. I wanted to get to know Jaxon and his pack more. I wanted to see if maybe in the end they were really the good guys here. Then I could decide my own fate.
