Chapter 18: Respect Your Superiors

*Jaxon’s POV*

“Are you ready for breakfast?” I asked Piper as I finished pulling on my dark grey shirt.

Dinner had gone over so well a few nights ago with the pack I figured it would be beneficial for her to join us for the rest of the meals. Piper seemed to be getting more and more comfortable being around them all. She talked to a few members here and there but still spent time observing everyone.

“Yes.” She finally responded as she exited the bathroom.

She looked beautiful. She let her long dark brown hair flow down her back in it’s natural waves. She had put on a pair of light colored jeans and a black shirt. She didn’t cake on a bunch of makeup either. Piper seemed to be the type to keep it simple, but even simple was gorgeous on her.

“Then let’s get going blue eyes.” I held my hand out for her to grab.

She took my hand and I led us out of the room. Her touch sent jolts of excitement throughout me. No other female had ever made me feel this way. It didn’t even have to be s****l for me to be content with her presence. Just being in the same room and inches apart was enough to keep me satisfied.

I led the way to the dining hall where most of the pack had already gathered and gotten their food. Piper and I took our seats at the head table and waited for our meal to be served. I could tell she was getting more confident in the role she would play here. She was on the road to accepting her fate and I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited for it.

Catherine and a few of the Omega’s brought our meals out and placed them in front of us. Today was an omelette stuffed with bacon, ham and cheese. There was a side helping of hashbrowns and fruit. We wasted no time digging in once everyone had their food. It all tasted divine, Catherine had always done an amazing job at running the kitchen.

While we ate I chatted back and forth with those at the table. I even made sure to give Piper a chance to talk to get to know the others. She would eventually have to talk more rather than observe. I didn’t need to tell her that though, she already knew. It was nice to be mated to someone who knew their luna duties.

Unlike the many females in the pack who wanted to just be the luna for the title. Honestly if I had been mated to one of them I probably would’ve rejected them. I didn’t want a mate that would cater to my every need. I wanted a mate who was strong and wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty or call me out on my bullshit. I wanted Piper.

I turned my attention to Piper. “I have some business I need to attend to with Nikko after breakfast. You’re more than welcome to walk around and explore a little bit.” I felt confident that she wouldn’t run off if I were busy.

“What kind of business?” She asked in a curious tone. “Maybe it’s something that I can help with.”

As much as I would love to include her, I don’t think we were there quite yet. I didn’t know what kind of relationship she had with Silver Moon, they had been her ally after all. The less she knew of the upcoming fight the better. Once they were dealt with then I would explain it all out to her.

“Just some stuff dealing with the pack.” I gave a vague answer on purpose. 

I could tell she wasn’t pleased with the response. It was clear as day on her face. I could also feel her emotions a lot stronger now. The more time we spent together the easier they were to pick up.

“Fine.” Her tone was flat as she finally responded. “You know if I stay here though you’re eventually going to have to clue me in.”

“I know.” I just had to make sure her decision had been made before I started diving into all the information. Once she was marked I would tell her it all, even my past.

We finished up breakfast and I made my rounds with Piper. She was a little more talkative today with the pack members. I felt like I was finally getting to show her off. Hopefully now the others could see why I had been so adamant about bringing her to join us.

We were heading out of the dining hall when Emma approached and cleared her throat to get our attention. Her hair was a dirty blonde and pulled up into a high ponytail. Her green eyes glared at me. I could tell by her face she was pissed.

Emma and I had fooled around a few times. It was never anything serious and I made that clear every time. I never wanted anything long term, the s*x was just a good way to help relieve the stress and the tension. Even with my blunt honesty though she managed to get attached and was pissed when she found out I had brought my mate home with me.

“Alpha Jaxon, I was wondering if we could talk.” She softened her look and spoke seductively. “Like in your office or something.”

“Emma, I’m busy. Whatever it is either get it out now or get over it.” I knew there was nothing important she wanted to discuss. She just wanted to attempt to cause drama.

“It’s more of a private matter.” She glared at Piper for a moment before looking back at me. “Between ex lovers.”

Before I even had the chance to respond Piper stood in front of me to force Emma to look at her. “I’m sorry, Emily is it?”

“Emma.” She glared at Piper once more.

“Oh I’m so sorry, usually I’m great with names but I guess when your head hits the headboard one too many times it’s bound to mess with you.” Piper spoke with amusement in her voice. She glanced back at me. “I keep telling you to go easy on me.”

It took everything I had to hold back my laughter. I knew just by looking at her Piper wasn’t threatened by Emma. She wasn’t the type to be jealous from the looks of it. She was however the type to put someone in their place when needed, I knew that by the few times she made it known I was an asshole.

Emma stood in shock for a moment by Piper’s words. She didn’t expect her to be so blunt. Finally she collected herself and crossed her arms over her chest.

“You’re temporary.” Emma faked a tone of arrogance. “He needs a real woman to be his luna. I doubt that’s you.”

“And you think you’re fit for the job?” Piper scoffed. “I would hate to break this to you, but I’m more than enough of a real woman for him. So real that I could break a twig like you with the flick of my wrist. Now, just a piece of advice, I would recommend watching how you talk to your future luna. I’d hate to have to make your life a living hell because you have no respect for your superiors.”

Emma’s eyes went wide. She had never been talked to like this before by another female member. They wanted her to like them, especially after she purposely spread rumors months ago that I would choose her regardless as a mate.

“She can’t do that!” Emma looked at me as if I would have her back on the matter.

“She can, once she’s your luna she has just as much power as I do.” I responded honestly. “That means if she decides you’re a problem she can deal with you accordingly. Even if that means exiling you.”

Emma thought carefully of her next responses. She let out a defeated sigh and looked back over to Piper. “I’m sorry. I’ll be on my way now.” She turned to go back to her friends.

“Emma.” Piper called out which caused her to turn around.

“Yes?” Emma’s tone held more respect now that she knew Piper wasn’t going to back down to her.

“Could you relay the same message to your little group of friends?” Piper asked. “Life will just be a little easier for us all if they mind their business as well.”

Emma nodded. “Of course.” She turned back around and hurried out of the dining hall so that no one else could witness her embarrassment.

I let out a low chuckle and placed a kiss on Piper’s cheek. “The more I get to know you the more and more impressive I find you.”

“How so?” She c****d an eyebrow.

“You’re strong, you don’t back down from a fight.” I answered. “You know how to be stern and threatening but keep your composure. No one has been able to get Emma to cower like that. I’m just impressed by you.”

“I see.” She thought for a moment. “You don’t think she will plan to cause any problems in the future do you?”

“No.” I knew Emma well enough to know once she was put in her place once she wouldn’t let herself taste the embarrassment again. “Not if she knows what’s good for her. If she does then I guess an example will be made out of her.”

We left the dining hall and I held Piper’s hand tightly. We went down the hall and I stopped at the door to my office. Nikko was approaching with his sister, Nadine. She was the one who had gathered all documents for me to show Piper.

“Nadine.” I called out her name.

She came over quickly with Nikko behind her. She had shoulder length dark blue hair that had been a bright blonde once. Her eyes were grey like Nikko’s. “Yes Alpha Jaxon?”

“This is Piper.” I introduced my mate. “While I’m busy with your brother, why don’t you show her around?”

“Sure.” Nadine’s eyes went wide in surprise and shock as she looked Piper over. She shook her head to pull herself out of whatever thought she had. She picked up on something. She then smiled and stuck her hand out for Piper to shake. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“You as well.” Piper smiled back.  I could tell she was apprehensive but she had little time to protest before Nadine began to drag her away.

I was satisfied as they went down the hall. Piper seemed to be leaning more towards staying here now. It would be good for her to get to know everything and for her to make a friend. Nadine was trustworthy and I had a feeling they would get along well.

Now came the question though, what did she notice about Piper that had her surprised?
