*Jaxon’s POV*
“Jaxon… Jaxon.” Nikko called out to get my attention.
“Sorry.” I apologized for zoning out. “I was mind linking with Piper.”
“I see.” He responded and a smirk crossed his lips. “Are you ready to get back to the matter at hand or are you needing to go tend to your mate?”
“I’ll be tending to her later.” I knew what he was getting at so I shot him a warning glance. The only warning he would get to not press the matter any further than he already had.
“Very well.” He cleared his throat. “The pack is wondering what the next plan of action is towards Moon Stone. They don’t like that they have been let off the hook.”
“Have I not made it clear enough that Moon Stone is still on my s**t list?” There was a slight annoyance in my voice. The pack seemed to think because I had found a mate from the enemy pack that I had lost all my common sense.
“You have. They’re still just worried about what effect Piper might have. Like what if she happens to convince you to let Moon Stone go?” Nikko brought up the concerns he had been given.
“Not even my mate can convince me to let them go completely.” I spoke confidently. “I have thought long about this and I think I’ve come up with two possible outcomes. It all depends on how it goes.”
“And what are the outcomes?” Nikko questioned.
“The first is Piper accepts her fate and when she finds out the entire truth she will help support us in taking them down.” I explained my first thought I had.
“That’s best case scenario right?” Nikko c****d a brow as he looked at me from across the desk.
“Yes.” I nodded. “The worst case is the rejection that I brought up in front of everyone when I addressed their questions. I still stand by what I said.”
“I will continue to make that clear to everyone when I’m approached about it.” Nikko responded.
I was annoyed and irritated that even after addressing concerns the pack still kept talking. Their talking was done more discreetly and I wasn’t hearing it as much at least. It was still bothersome as hell though. I had my faith in Piper but I wasn’t going to let that cloud my judgement. They all just needed to wait and see how this pans out.
“Were you able to collect the information I had requested?” I asked.
He opened the file in front of him. “It’s all here. It’s pretty damning evidence too. If this doesn’t show her who Matteo really is then I don’t know what will.”
My eyes fell onto the papers in the file. “So it’s better than what I asked for?”
“Yes.” Nikko nodded. “The receipts and documentation about the transactions that were made. Including the transaction that’s been being set up for a pup due anytime. Signed by Matteo himself.”
I was pleased with what he got. I didn’t know if it would be enough though. For her to know how serious it was for Matteo’s name to be on here she needed to believe me about the kidnappings. Right now someone who didn’t know could look at this and view it just as Matteo checking in on another pack.
Nikko noticed me deep in thought. “I bet I know what you’re thinking and I can help. There’s more that will really put the nail in the coffin for them.”
“Oh really?” I looked at him curiously. “Well, what is it?”
“We managed to come across the documentation they’ve kept. Every time a pup has been stolen or an exchange was made it’s been labeled.” He began to go through the papers in front of him.
“Clearly labeled or if someone were to look at it they would just be confused?” I didn’t want to bring Piper information she would just disregard.
“Clearly labeled. Either as contracted or murder.” Nikko answered. “But we’ve also found original birth records. It’s how they’ve kept track of which genes the ones they’ve taken have. Seems they use it to pair them with Moon Stone members to make a strong bloodline. Looking into it honestly, I would be surprised if any of the Moon Stone pack are fated mates to each other.”
“Birth records?” That specifically caught my attention. “Did you come across Piper’s?”
“Yes.” Nikko gave me exactly the answer I had wanted.
He took one of the papers from the pile and passed it across the table. I picked it up and looked it over. Her birth name was Piper Williams. She was originally from the Green Lake pack. Before Alpha Bradley came in and took her away by killing her parents.
“This. This is good.” My eyes remained on the paper and then I looked up from it. “How did you get all this?”
“Nadine.” He let out a low chuckle. “She knew the information was going to be needed one day so she kept trying to get into their records on her computer. She managed to crack it wide open the night we returned. She just didn’t know we would need it so soon.”
Nadine was Nikko’s little sister. She was quite handy when it came to the technical part of things. She spent a lot of time messing with programs or building computers. She would even take them a part to put them back together, just because she could. She was pretty much the definition of a nerd but that wasn’t a bad thing. Especially right now.
“Thank her for me later, would you?” I responded. “This has made my life a little easier. Especially with the Piper situation.”
“Of course.” Nikko nodded. “Now, how are things going with your mate? She seems to be the topic at hand for everyone, even for this meeting of ours.”
“I think I’m starting to make some progress with her.” I answered. “Considering our exchange in the room before I came down here things are improving.”
“Are they?” Nikko raised a brow as his smirk returned to his lips.
“Yes. The thing is she tries to fight so damn hard not to cave in to me. But she seems to not be any match for the mate bond as it keeps winning.” I explained. “This time that jackass didn’t interrupt us either.”
“You’re ruthless.” Nikko complimented. “Touching her and doing things to her knowing damn well he can feel how unfaithful she’s being.”
“He shouldn’t have marked her.” My tone was cold. I could feel a slight anger within myself as I talked about Matteo staking his claim to my mate. “It would be so much better if he could’ve heard how she moaned out for me today. But for now I’ll settle on him feeling his bond with her begin to weaken.”
“I bet he must f*****g hate that.” Nikko had an amused smirk on his face.
We hated Matteo together. We both had a few run-ins with him in the past. Each time he had acted like the entitled little brat his dad made him out to be. He thought he could have anything he ever wanted. It must kill him that I took his favorite toy from him.
“She was actually willing to talk as well. That was a first since she arrived.” I spoke once more. “But then I brought up the pack not trusting her and not being sure if I could trust her myself and things escalated from there.”
“Are you still going to keep it hidden from her that you can mark her at any time?” Nikko asked.
“One thing at a time.” I answered. “Finding out all this information about her pack and her family will be more than enough for now. I don’t want to overwhelm her, it could cause negative effects in our relationship. Besides, I’m in no rush. Once the truth begins to surface I doubt she’ll still want to leave.”
“The sooner she makes her alliance known and you mark her the less people will talk.” Nikko pushed the marking thing a little more. “They will have no choice but to respect her and keep their mouths shut.”
“They should be doing that now!” I growled as I slammed my fist onto my desk. “As their alpha they should respect and trust the decisions that I’m making. I have given them no reason to doubt me before but here they are continuing the doubts even after I have told them multiple times that they’re my priority.”
“They’ll come around. She just has to prove herself.” Nikko’s voice remained calm. He knew if he kept it calm it would bring mine back down. “Just like you proved yourself. They still respect you but they are just being cautious. That’s something I think we can both respect.”
I nodded in agreement. “I have an idea.”
“Well, what is it?” Nikko seemed slightly eager to hear what had popped into my head.
“I need to see how she reacts to this information first. I’m thinking of maybe doing an introductory dinner for her. That way the pack can meet her and get a feel for her vibe.” I explained the idea.
“That would be good.” Nikko agreed. “That would help some of them keep quiet.”
“I know. But it depends on how she takes the news that comes with all these papers.” I looked down at the proof right before me.
I didn’t know her well enough yet to anticipate what reaction she may have. She could take this really well and then be more willing to look into her duties here for Dark Moon. Or she would freak out and lose her s**t over it. That one would result in me needing more time before I take her around to meet my pack.
I could only hope for the best.
