Chapter 24: You Leave Me No Choice

*Jaxon’s POV* “Did you find anything?” I asked Nikko as he approached me. “They’ve definitely done something but I can’t find anything.” He answered. “I assumed they planted something here just in case we came. It’s an attempt to keep us from communicating while we’re shifted, however it seems more like all it’s done is prevented us from communicating with home.” “So I’ve noticed.” I let out a sigh of frustration. “We need to continue to move forward, our link hasn’t been affected so there’s no reason to waste time. They wouldn’t plant something here that would affect their abilities as well so we should be fine.” “Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Nikko c***s an eyebrow as he questions my decision. “Yes.” I responded. “We have to finish them off once and for all and we have to do it quickly. The sooner we return to our pack the better.” I knew the odds were that things would be chaotic when I returned home. My pack was strong and a force to be reckoned with, but when they didn’t have the proper guidance they were vulnerable. They gave into their worst thoughts. I had seen it on a few occasions but I was there to ease their minds, right now they only had Brandon. Brandon’s strong and a hard worker, but as a leader he could use improvement. I was reluctant to leave him in charge but he was the next highest ranking member. The lower the rank the worse shape the pack would be in when I got home. This is why they needed a luna, so when I was a way like this there was someone to help them through it. A luna like Piper. As I thought of Piper I could feel an ache in my chest. I missed my mate. If this fight wasn’t so damn important I would’ve canned the idea yesterday. I just wanted to be back home cuddled up with the one thing that had come to mean the most to me. She was becoming more and more important the longer we were together and I could tell her feelings were growing for me too. I had to take down Silver Moon for her, to keep her safe. Without an ally Matteo and Bradley would have to face me on their own. They clearly had a purpose for Piper and I couldn’t let them get their hands on her again. There was something special about her, that was clear, whatever it was though had some sort of value to Moon Stone. Nikko nodded in response. “Okay, you’re in charge after all.” We made our shift back into our wolf forms and continued on through the woods. Silver Moon’s pack was only a few hours away, we should’ve been done with them by now. It was when we couldn’t mind link with anyone at home that we took a pause to reevaluate everything. They clearly were preparing for us to surprise them. I stopped in my tracks as I heard movement coming from a group of bushes. I could sense right away this wasn’t someone from my pack. There was another wolf here, it had to be someone from Silver Moon. They were the only ones who would be in the area right now. I crept up quietly to the bushes. I waited til I felt like it was the right moment and pounced on whoever was hiding here. They fell back and landed on their back in the dirt. I wasted no time to pounce on the light brown wolf once again. I bared my teeth and I could see the fear in their eyes as they looked upon me. “Nikko!” I called for him through the link. I heard the pitter patter of his paws as he hurried over to me. “Yes?” He responded through the link. “Take my place.” I ordered. “They’re clearly close by, it’s about time I call out Alec.” Nikko gave a nod and we switched spots without letting the wolf I scared get away. I looked around to see if I could pick up on anyone else immediately. The rest of his pack must have picked better hiding spots. I let out a howl to call out their alpha, it was at least worth a shot to see if I could talk some sense into him. Moments later Alec approached with his pack of fighters behind him. They were shifted into their wolves as well. My eyes met Alec’s and I opened a connection with him. Usually mind link was used for mates or for the pack. As an alpha though we could all communicate with each other through links when we were face to face. “It’s not too late to call it off Alec.” I spoke once I knew I had his attention. “You have your own pack to worry about, you don’t need to fight the battles for another.” “This isn’t just their fight.” Alec bared his teeth as he spoke. “I know how this ends. First you come for Moon Stone, then you come for us. We’re not stupid.” “We can reach common ground here.” I was open to at least having a discussion on the things he had been included in on when it came to Moon Stone. Not to spare him or anything, but I knew if he gave more information it would be beneficial to us in the long run. “I know how you work.” He let out a low growl. “Even if we talk now you’ll be back later. We both know it.” “Not unless you’re guilty of something.” I already knew he was. He also had played a role in the kidnappings and I wanted him just as dead as I wanted Bradley. I was only trying to talk this out because I knew that’s what Piper would have wanted me to try if she was here. “I’m not going to answer that.” He responded as his eyes looked me over intensely. “Fine. I was trying to take the higher ground here, but you leave me no choice.” I spoke coldly over the link. I knew this was going to end in a fight but I could at least say I tried. Silver Moon wasn’t weak but we were stronger. They were definitely going to do a number on us and we wouldn’t be leaving here without any wounds. We could take them on though, and we could win them. “Was there really even another option?” Alec scoffed. “Apparently not.” I responded. His pack member we had captive was right. I could tell Alec didn’t care if he lost every single member that stood beside him right now. As long as he came out of this is what mattered to him. It would be easy for him to rebuild members if he went to Bradley for help. I closed the link with Alec and opened the one up with the pack of fighters and Nikko. “Get ready. He won’t budge on handling this civilly.” I ordered. “So the plan resumes as normal then?” Nikko decided to clarify. “Yes.” I answered. “We don’t stop fighting until Alec is dead. Our prisoner was right, he needs to be taken out and that happens right now.” “Yes Alpha.” The fighters all respond in unison. We all prepare to pounce on the other pack. I had a few other fighters out more on the sides. The tension seemed to grow as we all managed to stare each other down. Low threatening growls could be heard between the two groups as we waited. I never had my pack make the first move, we always waited for our opponent to make it. The tension continued to build until one of his members couldn’t take it any longer. The wolf jumped for one of my fighters. That’s all it took for everything to break into chaos. Alec jumped for me but I managed to jump at the same time and knock him to the ground. He attempted to bite at my neck so he could tear out my throat but I dodged it as I clawed into him to draw blood. He was strong, but I was stronger. I wasn’t going to let him try to take me out within the first minutes of our fight. I don’t go down that easily. I grabbed his neck with my teeth and flung him into a tree as I moved myself. I took the few brief seconds to look at the c*****e around me. My fighters were tough but some of Silver Moon had managed to injure them pretty bad. From further inspecting I could see there were already a few Silver Moon members lying lifeless on the blood soaked ground. This was getting bad pretty quickly. I turned my attention back to Alec just as he pounced onto me and knocked me to the ground. I clawed him again and flipped it so I had him pinned once again. I needed to take him out fast so that this could be all done and over with. If I killed him his fighters would retreat almost instantly. “Is this how you really want to die?” I asked through the connection I had opened back up. “For a pack that’s too scared to fight their own battles? A good alpha shouldn’t involve himself in personal matters. You’ve done nothing but put your pack in harms way. You don’t deserve the alpha title, you never did.” “I’m not the one dying here tonight.” He answered with confidence in his tone. “You and your pack are.” He bit hard into one of my paws. I let out a yipe to myself from the pain. It did in fact hurt but I wasn’t about to let him get the satisfaction from it. It would only boost his confidence even more. Alec flipped us over so he had the upper hand now. He let out a loud growl as he bared his teeth at me. “This mate of yours must be really special to have caused this much trouble. Maybe after I kill you I’ll take her for myself, that would really show Matteo and Alpha Bradley to not involve me in their s**t anymore.” “You don’t talk about her!” I roared with anger before cutting off the link. I attempted to bite at his neck with my teeth but he dodged me. All I could see was red right now for what he had said. I managed to use my strength to throw him off me and got back on all fours. This motherfucker was going to die and it would be brutally. I went to pounce on him once more but his beta joined in and knocked me to the ground. He had me pinned down as Alec approached. I could see the smugness in his eyes. It didn’t matter that it took two of them to contain me, in his mind all he cared about was that I was now at his mercy. His beta continued to have me pinned down as Alec opened his mouth wide. He bite down onto my neck hard as he was prepared to rip my throat out. He paused for a moment and his voice came through the link. “Do you have any last words?”
