Chapter 10: I Want To Know What You Know

1778 Words
*Piper’s POV* I waited patiently for Jaxon to return. This time we were going to actually talk. I refuse to let anything further happen with him. No matter how he made me feel I couldn’t let it get the best of me. Giving in to him couldn’t be an option right now. The door to the room opened and Jaxon stood by as the food for the both of us was brought in by a few of the pack members. They set it up on the table and left quickly. He shut the door behind them which left him and I alone. “Sit. Let’s eat.” He motioned to the chair for me as he made his way to sit down. I got up from the couch and joined him at the table. Tonight it appeared a roast had been prepared. It was served with a side of salad and mashed potatoes. I started digging in as I was hungrier than I had anticipated. “Worked up quite the appetite there?” Jaxon asked in an amused tone. I shot him daggers with my eyes as I swallowed the bite of food I had taken. “Shut up or I’ll stab you with the fork.” “Kinky.” He smirked. I rolled my eyes in response and took another bite of food. He didn’t make any further comments as we proceeded to eat our meal together. Instead it was silent. I expected it to be more uncomfortable. But it wasn’t. Was I more willing to sit here with him just to piss off Matteo? Or was I just starting to accept the situation I had been dealt? At this point it was probably a little of both. I decided to be the one to break the silence. “So you agreed that we should talk, is there anything in particular that you want to discuss with me?” He swallowed the food in his mouth and took a sip of water. “Let’s save that for after our meal is done. Let’s just enjoy each other’s company for a moment before we start getting into serious conversation.” “Whatever.” I scoffed. “What’s your favorite color?” He asked nonchalantly and then proceeded to take another bite of the roast that had been prepared. “Really?” I raised a brow at him. “What the hell does my favorite color have to do with anything?” He finished chewing and swallowed. “ I’m trying to make some conversation. And you’re my mate. I want to learn more about you. Hell, I want to know everything you’re willing to tell me.” “I’m not willing to tell you anything. You’ll just use it against me later.” I responded as I took a bite of salad. He let out a low chuckle. “And how exactly am I going to use something like your favorite color against you blue eyes?” He was clearly amused by my response. “I don’t know. But I’m sure you of all people will find a way.” I spoke confidently. “Me of all people? What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked as he leaned back slightly in the chair. “It means, that I’ve heard you like to be sneaky and use things to your advantage. I wouldn’t be surprised if you had been using this mate bond against me just because you could.” I answered. I saw a flash of hurt on his face that instantly sent guilt throughout me. It seemed to be a genuine hurt too. “I’m aware you’ve heard things, but I wouldn’t use something that’s so special and sacred against you like that.” All amusement was gone from his voice. I didn’t know how to respond. The atmosphere seemed to get a little tense and awkward. I could feel the hurt I had given him with my words. He was my fated mate after all, it was easy to tune into his feelings. Much easier than it had ever been with Matteo. “My favorite color is purple.” I finally answered his question. It was the only thing that came to my mind that might shift things from being so awkward. A small satisfied smirk crossed his lips. I could feel the hurt start to dissipate within him. “Mine’s red. If you didn’t gather that by the color of my Jeep.” He responded. We finished up the meal and he had some members come and take away the used dishes. They entered just as quickly as they did the first time and left. He again shut the door behind them once they were gone. He stood by for a moment, I could tell he was listening in to make sure they were gone to give us our privacy. “Do you want to sit on the couch?” He asked as he noticed I remained in the chair at the table. “No.” My response left my lips quickly. I had a feeling that if we went back to the couch things would end just the same way as they did earlier. I needed to have a safe distance so we could actually talk about things. “Okay. I understand.” He nodded as he came over and took his seat back at the table across from me. “Thank you.” I spoke in a quieter tone. “So are you going to tell me why you were upset earlier?” Jaxon questioned as he looked me over curiously. “I wasn’t upset.” I tried to hide it as I didn’t want to confess I had mind linked with Matteo. I didn’t want to set Jaxon off as I didn’t know what to expect from his temper. “Yes you were.” Jaxon clearly wasn’t going to let it go. “Was it him?” He caught me slightly by surprise. “What do you mean?” He let out a low chuckle. “I’m not stupid Piper. He marked you, that means he can communicate with you even when you’re apart like this. I know he mind linked you the first time I pleased you.” I was taken aback by his words. He had known but he didn’t say anything to me about it. “Why aren’t you mad about it or something?” “Oh I’m not happy about it.” His face got serious. “I don’t like that he still has the ability to talk to you. But I also know I would have to be a total dumbass to not expect it.” “I see.” I responded. “Once I figure out how to mark you though, that connection and bond you two have will remain no more.” Jaxon was confident in his words. “If, if you can figure out how to mark me.” I reminded him. The truth is I didn’t need him to mark me to tell Matteo and I’s bond was being affected. I could feel the distance starting to settle in between us. If I didn’t get back to him soon I didn’t know what would happen. Could we survive two months apart? How much damage would be done before we finally got back to each other? “Why did he upset you?” Jaxon got back to the topic we were originally on. “We got into an argument because he knew what you and I did. He could feel it.” I didn’t mean to tell him about it but it just came out. A satisfied smirk crossed his lips briefly before he pushed it away. Of course he would be pleased to know Matteo knew how unfaithful I had been because of this damn bond. Everything was going to s**t because of this bond. I still couldn’t figure out why the moon goddess mated me to him. “I’m sorry you’re caught up in all of this mess Piper. Truly I am.” Jaxon spoke seriously. “What is it that I’m caught up in Jaxon?” His words had raised more questions within me. “I don’t know if you’re quite ready to know everything yet. I need to make sure your mind is open enough to accept the truth. Whether it’s a truth you want to hear or not.” He responded. I stood up from the chair quickly. I had used so much force that the chair fell and hit the floor behind me. “Damn it Jaxon! I want to know what you know! There’s clearly some details that have been kept hidden and I want to know what they are!” Matteo claimed Jaxon was bad and had actually given me reasons. Jaxon claimed Matteo and Moon Stone were bad but had not said anything as to why. I was beyond frustrated. I wanted to know what he thought he knew. I wanted to know why he came in and wanted to murder everyone for no god damn reason! “Piper, calm down.” Jaxon tried to use a soothing voice but it wasn’t going to work on me. I wasn’t letting myself get off topic. “No!” My tone was stern with him. “You claim to have all this information about my pack and then you ask about my parents, spill it! Tell me what you know!” “Are you sure?” He stood up and closed the gap between us. “Because once you know the things I know there is no going back. You’ll see Matteo and the rest of your pack for the monsters they truly are!” I felt as if his words were challenging me. “Yes I’m sure.” “Fine.” He finally caved. “You might want to have a seat then, you’re going to f*****g need it after this.”
