*Jaxon’s POV*
I sat in my office, contemplating my next move with Piper. It had been a week since I revealed to her part of what Moon Stone had been doing. The day after she seemed to pull away from me again. It seemed like it was best to give her a little space as she tried to process it all. It couldn’t be easy, finding out that the life you thought you knew all along wasn’t the truth. That the ones you trusted turned out to be the ones you should’ve been careful of.
She still had more things to learn. I only planned to give her one thing at a time to handle. There was too much information to take in. I worried giving her too much at once might become overwhelming. I wanted her to be able to actually process everything.
I was pulled out of my thoughts as I could hear footsteps coming closer to my office door. I could pick up Nikko’s scent but he wasn’t alone. I gave the air another sniff to try to figure out who it was. It took me a moment but I finally recognized it as Jasper’s. He was the one in charge of keeping the perimeter watched. If anything was off he was to report it, the fact he was coming probably wasn’t good.
There was a knock. “Come in.” I spoke as I sat back in my chair.
Nikko and Jasper both entered quickly. “Jaxon, we need to talk.” Nikko spoke as he took a seat across from me.
My eyes fell on Jasper who had taken the other seat. “I’m sensing this is perimeter related?” I asked.
“Yes Alpha Jaxon.” Jasper nodded. “There was some activity right outside of it last night. We thought it might be an attack but there weren’t enough of them to actually come and fight. I sense about five in total.”
“Okay.” I responded. “So was just a pack coming too close then or is this something else?”
Jasper hesitated for a moment before answering. “It might be better if you come and actually look at it.”
“Then let’s go.” I got up from my office chair. “Where is it?”
“Towards the back end.” Nikko answered. “It’ll be faster if we shift and go to it.”
I give him a nod in response. “Well get your asses up and let’s go.” I ordered.
I walked out of the office on a mission. They both followed swiftly behind me. We made it outside to the back of the pack house where we removed our clothing and made the shift. This was a quick trip to the back end of the perimeter so it wasn’t worth bringing an omega with us.
When we were in battle we had a few omega’s tag along. Their responsibility was to pick up the clothes we dropped when we shifted and bring them to us when we were ready to go back into our human form. It made it more convenient for us this way. It also made the chosen omegas feel important to the pack.
Our wolf forms often held similar features to our human forms. My fur was a dark brown like my hair and my hazel eyes remained. Nikko’s fur was grey, very similar to his eyes. It wasn’t often that the color would come from something like that which made him pretty unique. Jasper’s wolf was an auburn color with brown eyes.
“Lead the way.” I ordered Jasper through our mind link.
He gave me a nod. He then turned and led the way into the trees. I followed behind along with Nikko. We quickly went through the forest area. There were trees we dodged and rocks we jumped over as we went along. Finally we came up on the area in question and slowed down.
“Well, where is it?” I asked them both through our link.
“Here.” Jasper answered as he walked over to the edge of the perimeter.
I followed and looked at what he had to show me. There was a moon shape that had been made with claws and a line right through the middle. This was a warning. It was from another pack, they didn’t come last night to fight. But it doesn’t mean they won't be back soon.
I sniffed at the air as I tried to pick up the scent of who it was. I walked over to the symbol and got a whiff of what had remained from the one who put it here. As an alpha we were all pretty familiar with the scent that comes off of neighboring packs. I let out a low growl and then I turned back to Jasper and Nikko.
“Did you pick up on who might have left it?” Nikko asked through the link.
“Let’s go back to the packhouse. It’s safer and we can have our privacy to talk more.” I ordered as I headed in the direction we had come from.
Nikko and Jasper were the ones following behind me now. We hurried back and shifted back to our human forms. We got dressed without a word and headed back into the packhouse. We got into the office and Nikko shut the door behind us and locked it.
“It’s the Silver Moon pack.” I spoke once we were alone.
Silver Moon wasn't exactly on good terms with us as well. They were allies to Moon Stone. They knew everything Moon Stone was up to and had taken part in it a few times themselves. The only difference was Silver Moon actually had back bones to put up a fight. Unlike Moon Stone who had given up their future luna as if she meant nothing.
“Fuck.” Nikko spoke under his breath.
“What does this mean?” Jasper asked as he looked between the two of us.
I let out a low menacing chuckle. “It means they want us to prepare for a fight.”
I was a little amused honestly. Silver Moon was still smaller than us. We had better fighters so I wasn’t worried. The fact that they were coming to do the dirty work for Moon Stone is what irritated me. I didn’t expect Moon Stone to turn to an ally because of the agreement Alpha Bradley and I had made.
“I want you to make sure any activity is reported to me immediately. No matter if it seems threatening or not. I need to know.” I ordered Jasper.
“Yes Alpha Jaxon.” He nodded.
“I want you to go brief everyone who is on perimeter duty right now. Inform them as of right now there’s no need to be worried but just to keep a watchful eye out.” I spoke once more before dismissing him.
“Of course.” He headed for the door and Nikko let him out.
Once Jasper was out of the room Nikko shut the door again so that we could talk further in detail. I sat down in my chair and Nikko took a seat across from me. I needed to decide what to do. I couldn’t go and do anything to Moon Stone, not yet as Piper was still not totally on my side yet.
“How does your mate feel about Moon Stone now?” Nikko asked.
“Surprised by their acts. I can also feel she’s hurt that dumb ass Matteo played her as a fool. But she’s not upset enough to let me take them out. Yet.” I answered.
“If we don’t take out Moon Stone they will keep trying to figure out ways to work around the contract with you.” Nikko responded.
“I’m aware of that.” There was a slight annoyance in my tone. “But I can’t pressure her. If she feels forced into staying here then in her eyes we’re just as bad as she thought we were. We have to give her a little bit of time.”
“So what do you want to do while we wait then?” I could tell he wasn’t exactly pleased with the answer but he understood the situation we were in.
Piper was going to be the luna of Dark Moon. I could feel it and sense that it was coming. She was powerful and she would do an amazing job. But it wouldn’t happen if she was standoffish and not willing to accept her role.
“We prepare to fight Silver Moon.” I answered. “It’s not like it’ll be hard. We have the strongest fighters around.”
“You don’t think leading your pack into a fight that can be avoided isn’t a little selfish?” I knew Nikko was just bringing up the concerns that everyone else would have as well.
“No. Because we’ll end up fighting them at some point, let’s be honest.” I was confident in my answer. “We knew that from the start. Once Moon Stone was wiped out Silver Moon would come running in because we destroyed their ally.”
Nikko nodded. “That’s true.”
“This just means we take down Silver Moon first.” It was inevitable that we would fight both, it didn’t matter exactly who we fought first. “In my opinion that will make things easier in the end. We take out Silver Moon then Moon Stone has to fight on their own, no reinforcements.”
“Well when you put it like that, it makes more sense.” Nikko seemed to be more accepting of my choice now.
“I need you to come here.” Piper’s voice entered inside my head.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
I could feel her emotions. She was angry about something. I could also pick up on her being upset and frustrated. Something had to have happened after I left her alone this morning. My guess was that Matteo had something to do with it this time.
