THE END OF THE WAR It’s almost over. The war between humans and zombies that has raged for as long as I can remember is at its end. The last of them is a mere three feet in front of me, writhing in pain. I can end this now and the world can be at peace. I take a step toward it and stop. I want to savor the moment, bask in my victory. I shouldn’t take pleasure in my enemy’s suffering, but I do. We have been murdered relentlessly by these things for years. Even my earliest memories are of survival. Run. Hide. Repeat. We’ve felt nothing but fear and helplessness as we were hunted and killed without understanding why.
