In the morning they were awoken by someone walking up and down the corridors ringing a handbell. Daniel dragged himself from a dream in which he was back at school, just a little kid again, and the bell was sounding the end of lunchtime play. He rubbed at his eyes and tried blinking. They felt gummy and his eyelids were sticky and thick with goo. He sat up in bed and leaned over the edge.
