In the instant before the lightning struck, Lee saw the fear and confusion on Will’s face as he stared wide eyed above and behind her. She was aware of something dreadful looming over them, but never had time to turn around and look before they were engulfed in the hot, bright flash of electricity.
The pain coursed through her body in a pulse of energy, setting her nerve endings on fire, streaming out through her fingertips and toes and standing her hair on end. She opened her mouth to scream, but the pain ended as suddenly as it had begun, her white, illuminated world turned to darkness and she collapsed on the pavement.
