PRESENT GRAYSON’S POV: The overwhelming urge to run after Selene filled me and I found my feet working of their own accord as I cut my way through the crowd, my eyes scanning the horde for the heart stopping purple of her gown, the cascade of brown curls. But she was nowhere to be seen, swallowed by the life thrumming within the hall. Gone with whatever ruin she had carried beneath her skin. My hands itched to hold onto her once again, this time to shake her until she revealed her secrets, until she told me what she had done. I could fix whatever she had done, I thought desperately. If only I could see her again. The madness of it wasn’t lost on me. How I loved her and hated her in the same breath. “Congratulations, Mr Vexley.” A man called, blocking my path. “Big night for you.”
